    3. Whilst carrying out research for a new book "A Village during the Great War" Swavesey, Cambridgeshire. - I came across a newspaper report which I thought might be of interest to someone. In Swavesey, during the war, wounded soldiers where sent to a V.A.D. hospital in the Old House, Blackhorse Lane, to recover, which resulted in several local nurses marrying soldiers who spent time there, One nurse was a Miss Maud Beales. Maud was thanked for her valuable services in a list published by the Secretary of State in August 1919. Maud married a Mr Black, a New Zealander, who was a trooper in King Edward's Horse., and had been a patient at the Hospital. A fortnight before this list was published they had sailed for New Zealand. John Shepperson.
