I know from my own family's history that very strange things can happen in the oral transmission of (former home) placenames and origin myths, particularly once the the transitional generation are dead and an ocean lies between the ongoing line and the old country. Given you have some DNA results, you might like to look at http://www.geocities.com/thurlowons/eagdna/frame_set.html (eagdna = East Anglia Geographic DNA project) which maintains a database and runs a 'list' like this, with some interested/informed and helpful regulars. Given it's Geocities, it might be as well to do it soon...... Ian Graham
Thank you Ian, Thank you so much for your info and website, and will check it tomorrow when I have more time. We are in a DNA "T" Haplogroup, so that makes our line of Powells very rare, and most likely related to "T" Groups that match all the way to 67 markers. Our DNA group can be found by putting Powell DNA Project into your Search, and clicking on to it. Look for the T Haplogroup which is under the first Submitter. There are ll of us. You can read each family background back to the oldest ancestor by clicking on the blue underlined kit numbers. We just cannot seem to find the link where or who really was the ancestor that came to the USA, we would also like to know if they came from Ireland, Wales, or England. Know that is a lot of territory to scan, but we are so lost at looking for these people. Ran into one person in the family, and they said Upson Powell told of an Irish Heritage, so guess we are a dukes mixture. I am thanking everyone so much for any help given, and will try my best to use the info. Anyone has permission to use my email address off line.
