G'day Phil & Pam & Listers ! I hope that this does not muddy the waters too much, but do you realise that the "43rd Foot" is not the same as the Royal Newfoundland Veterans ? The "43rd Foot" later became known as The Monmouthshire Regiment - O.K. all the regiments in the British Army recruited from all over the place, literally wherever they could find somebody willing to "take the King's shilling", so it does not necessarily mean that he came from there ! If you put "43rd Foot" into Google you will get a load of 'hits' and one on the very first page tells you that they went to Canada in 1757 and were involved in the capture of Quebec two years later; I imagine the Royal Newfoundland Veterans was some sort of "old soldier's" regiment for those who had seen quite a bit of service, but you will have to Google further to search this. I hope this helps a little ? Best Wishes !
