    3. Hi Jenny This does not answer your question, but... There is a William Chaplin who was born in Clifton in 1823 and living at the time of the 1851 census with his uncle Samuel in Southampton. The uncle, a tea dealer, was also a native of Clifton (which was then close to Bristol, and today completely absorbed within the city). His address then was 121 High Street which was close to the parish church of Holy Rood which was seriously damaged during the Blitz and is now a permanent war memorial for the Merchant Navy - appropriate for Southampton. 3. Hi Jenny There isn't - it is! The remains of the church have been dedicated as a war memorial to the merchant marine. Good luck with finding the wife - the nearest I got was a Sarah Croft living with her family in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire; I did not send it because 1) it is Croft rather than Crofts, 2) Sarah rather than Sophia Sangster and 3) because Sarah was born in 1835 not 1833. 3. Hi Paula, Thanks ever so much for all of this - a very interesting story emerging here, well done. This certainly looks to be the correct family. Sophia was living with a relative or staying in 1841 (probably an Uncle) I wonder where Sophia was in 1851 3 years before she married william Chaplin in Cambridge wish I could find this marriage on ancestry. I def think is worth following up what you found below re a Will. Tks again Regards Jenny > Date: Wed, 3 Mar 2010 10:28:45 +0000 > From: psycholemon@gmail.com > To: eng-cambridgeshire@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [ENG-CAMS] Chaplin/Crofts Help Please > > From the CFHS site: > St Mary's Whittlesey - Baptisms > 1830 Henry S CROFT of Delph Street s of Matthew H and Mary A > 1833 Sophia S CROFT of Delph Street d of Matthew H and Mary A > > Henry Southwell CROFTS was born in Whittlesey ~1830 and looking at > various census returns he spent much of the time after he retired > living in Southampton.
