Dawn I had a look at the Ely Cemetery burial records, and Eliza Bishop was buried in Ely Cemetery on 29th April 1921. She died at Lynn Road in Ely, which may well be the same address as that John had died at, but Lynn Road is a long road. The Minister who read the burial service was a Rev. Timms. Eliza was buried in grave plot B76. This is indeed the same grave plot as John was buried in in 1904. John's burial service was read by the Rev. Huddleston. I can't help noticing that the original entry for John does not use the letter U in any category. Since they were both clearly buried in consecrated ground it can't possibly mean unconsecrated. Is it possible that the U is simply a transcription error? I have searched hundreds and hundreds of Ely cemetery records, and have never come across this U before. As I recall, the plots beginning with a B are those to the left of the path beyond the cemetery chapel. I won't be in Ely for a couple of weeks, but when I do I will try and see if plot B76 has a headstone. Thanks Simon for the valuable input on Eliza and John Bishop's burials. It seems in initially asking about my grans father also named John Bishop I have in fact gained missing information on his parents. I am grateful for the assistance being not from England let alone Cambridgeshire. As to the "U' if as is suggested by Simon the "U" is in fact a transcription error it will mean this is twice I have had John Powell Bishop's details transcribed in error. It took quite a while to find his and Eliza's marriage which turned out to have him listed as "Jane Powell Bishop". On viewing the original page online it was clear Jane was in fact John. I know however how easy it can be to type something like this in error. Volunteers to a marvelous job. Can some answer my most nagging question as to whether there is some source out there that may provide newpaper records of obituaries in 1904 around the Coates area or maybe Peterborough. John Bishop (jnr) was buried in the Coates churchyard 25th April 1904. As he was a policeman at the time I am not sure if the Coates police would have been present or his death noted in the newspaper due to his involvement. Again I do not know if he has a headstone. His wife remarried but is also buried in the same churchyard possibly with her 2nd husband. This couple was Mary Elizabeth and Thomas Henry Neal who died 14 April 1959 and 7th Aug 1954 respectively. As these are later burials there may be a headstone but as I am not in England I do not know how to check. Thanks once again.
