My query here concerns a man from Witcham, Cambridgeshire and a woman from Bergholt, Suffolk. My interest is in JAMES HEWMAN born 1784 (with two brothers William b.1779 and John b.1781 and a sister Mary b.1788) at Witcham just outside Ely to John and Ann Hewman . Is this the same James Human that turns up in 1841 in Scotland? James wife was called ANNA MARIA born 1799 in BERGHOLT SUFFOLK. In 1841 they were living in Scotland (and now known as HUMAN) - but James died in 1848 (buried in Edinburgh) and his wife returned to England. 1851 saw her living in Dovercourt Essex now calling herself MARIA A with a visitor George Gay b 1830 Ipswich Suffolk. 1861 she is living in Poulton, Bare and Torrisholme, Lancashire and called ANN M. Now she is a servant to Neil Cameron (b 1810 Scotland) probably someone they knew from when they lived in Scotland as both her husband and Neil Cameron were Coast Guards. I have found a probable death for Ann in 1866 in Lancaster, Lancashire with her surname spelt HEWMAN. I would love to know her maiden name and where they were married (possibly no earlier than 1820?) I have been to Scotlands People - but the only documentation they have is his death certificate which just records his place of birth as ENGLAND. I would love to hear from anybody that might be able to help with this puzzle. Jill Human Cumbria
