Jeanette - Just to confirm - all the original cottages are all still standing on the north side of Cambridge Road (the A603) in Wimpole. The village officially dropped the "New" in 1999. Hi Lesley, Yes they is a very big group here in Bairnsdale of which I am a member. Genealogical society it is one of the biggest in East Gippsland, it's called East Gippsland family History Group, many books, shipping records, CD's galore and microfiche machines, unfortunately we seem to have a lot of members that are not taking advantage off the versatilities that the club has. There seems to be a small active group compared to the membership. I join about two years ago after coming back from a 33 year stay in Rockhampton Qld. and it open my eyes to see the CD's alone to track down the past pioneers, families birth death and marriages. I can give you a couple of web sites to look it over. http://home.vicnet.net.au/-egfhg/ egfhg@bigpond.com http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries The Australia Cemeteries web site if you click on Bairnsdale it gives all about the club news, fees meetings and what ever. Hope this is of some interest to you Cheers from the Chippie. Max L. Hi, Would anyone be researching John Skinner born Cambridgeshire 1830 he married Annie Anson ( born 1844 Lancashire or Leicetershire) in 1861 I believe in Victoria Australia. He had 13 children born in Victoria. They would have travelled possible on the same ship and then marry on arrival their fist son John was born 1861. If anyone is working on this line would love to here from you. Cheers from the Chippie. Max L. In particular Eli Allgood who married Frances Webb. Some when between 1897 & 1901 the family moved to Middlesborough from Cambridge. In 1909 Eli took his family to join son David in Salt Lake city via Canada. My question is did Wife Frances die before the family emigrated or did she stay behind, there are several deaths for Allgood's in Middlesborough including the youngest child Arthur James, but nothing for Frances and she does not feature on the passenger list or Canada/USA border crossing list either. Any help would most appreciated. Bob -- Genealogy Web Database www.bobhutchins.me.uk Bob recommends Ubuntu 8.10 O$

Many thanks Pam, for your quick reply, I'll try the websites you mentioned. Much appreciated. Cheers, Joy
Hi Joy, There are a number of researchers who have put a lot of work into the Marsh family of West Wratting and neighbouring parishes - perhaps some of them have already responded to your query?? The Robert Marsh you mention was baptized 2 March 1783 at West Wratting. Bennet's maiden name was GILBEY. I am connected to the family a number of times, although I don't descend from them. I have quite a lot of data on the MARSH ancestry and a little on the GILBEYS. Please contact me direct at kpcooper@bigpond.net.au if you would like further info. My question is this- can I find out where Thomas was born by his marriage banns in Holy Trinity, or perhaps by the parish records of All Saints Cambridge where his sons were baptised ? I suspect he may have been born in Balsham in 1805, the son of Robert and Bennet Marsh. If any lister has interests in Marsh of Balsham, or can steer me in the right direction to verify my Thomas Marshs' origins I would be really pleased to hear from you. Hi Joy, It really depends on how pedantic the vicar was.... For example the Banns or marriage may state Thomas Marsh of Balsham and Mary Ann Of this parish..... But that being said OTP or of this Parish can be applied to someone that has been in the Parish for some length of time, or has a good living in the Parish. But it is worth getting the PR's out. You may find her family. Plus sometimes the first child is baptised in the females home parish because birthing was precarious, they sometimes went home for the first birth. All sorts of reasons to cover your bases. try these two websites for Cambs..... www.calm.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/archiveCatalogue http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html Cheers Pam from Adelaide Australia > Hello all - I'm new to this list and am asking for information re Thomas > Marsh who, in October1821 married Mary Ann Turner in Holy Trinity > Cambridge. Hello everyone I am new to this list and am helping a friend research her family and many of them came from Whittlesey. Unfortunately I know nothing of research in the Cambridge area. James MARRIOTT born c.1806 who married Sarah. I have 4 children for them so far - Alice 1828, Matthew1833, James 1835 and John 1840. (What interests me most about this family is that MARRIOTT is a very common name in the Derbyshire area where I have a lot of my own research). Alice HOPPER baptised Whittlesey 4 Apr 1824 dau. of Charles HOPPER and Mary FOWLER. Alice married Samuel BUTT at Whittlesey in 1845. Their children Charles, Harriott, Thomas Martin and Samuel were born at Coates. Richard KISBY and Ann WHITWELL both born c.1829 and married in 1849 in Whittlesey. Their children were Alice, John and Mary Ann. If anyone can help me with the baptisms, marriages, burials in that area I would be extremely grateful.
