My Herbert D Watkins was a son of Alfred P WATKINS and Dorothy May GITTINGS who married in 1918 in Cannock, Staffs. Hi there, Can anyone tell me whether a baby born in 1910 in Cambridge and diagnosed with Epilepsy would have been cared for at home, or whether it might have been looked after by an Institution in or near Cambridge? [We have birth details, and have been told the baby died several years later, but I can trace no death records in Cambridgeshire]. John Riley
I wonder if any Lister has this woman as an ancestor. She was convicted of Larceny in 1806 and transported for 7 years. She was 'ux' of John Single, and may have had children. She arrived with other female convicts on the 'Sydney Cove' in 1807. Recors are difficult to find, but it appears she was either assigned to or had formed a relationship with a passenger on the 'Sydney Cove', named Samuel Foster, a Gentleman of Birmingham. She gave birth to a daughter Mary in 1809 and this child although named Mary Single was recorded on the Muster of 1811 as mary Foster and Ann has a notation beside her name, 'wife of Samuel Foster'. these 3 persons returned to Birmingham in 1818, and Samuel Foster died the following year, leaving Ann 'his housekeeper' ( for he was married , but estranged from his wife) well provided for and his daughter Mary inherited all his substantial wealth. He also left Ann's son John Single some money. I have searched for a marriage for Ann and found an Ann Gray marrying John Single in 1793 at St Giles. I cannot find the birth of a child John , however. I am really anxious to learn more about Ann and her life and family in Cambridgeshire. Did she return to her husband and children after 1819? Also I am not quite certain how to acquire her trial papers. I would be grateful for any help or information. Many thanks Gloria

I have (hopefully, temporarily!) misplaced my CD of Mill Road Cemetary. I am trying to find the burial details for Frederick A J Moss who I suspect was buried there in 1925, having died aged 12. Can anyone help? John RILEY
Greetings all, I have Thomas Marsh born about 1806 somewhere in Cambridgeshire. I suspect it may have been West Wratting but obviously want to verify where. Thomas married on 7th October 1821 to Mary Ann Turner in Holy Trinity Cambridge, BOTP . Two sons were born to them, Henry, bpt 26 May 1822, and Charles bpt 24 Apr 1825, both baptised in All Saints, Cambridge.. Thomas is a shoemaker in King Street. I have him in the 1841 census but of course no designated birthplace apart from the County. I've found no birth in Cambridge that would match Thomas, but found one in West Wratting, son of Robert Marsh and Benet Gilbey. What I'm asking is " would the banns for Thomas' marriage give his parents or birthplace, or the full parish record for his marriage, or any other source ? Is there some KS who has access to same be prepared to look this up for me. Cheers, Joy in Waiuku, New Zealand.

So its not surprising that the marriage record for Thomas MARSH & Mary Ann TURNER doesn't mention parents. However it does mention 2 witnesses: John TURNER & John MARSH. Witnesses were often siblings although they could have been uncles or cousins or the fathers or even unrelated folk. The Banns would have contained even less information and that was true here: Banns of 30 Sep 1821 Thomas MARSH otp & Mary Ann TURNER otp Holy Trinity, Cambridge Sorry it isn't good news :( Paula
Hello, This is an update on my search for information on Richard FOXCROFT. He was a fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge and the College Librarian was very helpful, giving me lots of information from their archives, and also guided me to the University Library who hold the original of his will, which was proved in the University Court in 1609. I now have a copy of that will, but unfortunately it does not name his children. I know that he married Alice HODSON, also of Cambridge, at St Mary's in Ely in 1580. It appears that he was granted a licence for this by the Bishop of Ely. I presume that the licence was necessary because neither he nor his wife were from that parish. Please can anyone cast any light on why a licence is needed ? We presume they chose to be married there because they knew the vicar. Does anyone know where I could find a list of vicars for St Mary's, Ely? Does anyone have access to the PR for St Mary's, Ely ? Please would you check whether the marriage is shown, and let me know whether the entry gives any further information ? Hi Folks, I have recently come to my 10th Great Grandfather Athanasius Carrington who married and Elizabeth (unknown) son of Athanasius Carrington and Susan Farrow. I believe he may have been born/baptised in Fowlmere. I was wondering if someone who had easier access to the Fowlmere Registers than I, could please have a look for his birth/baptism abt 1650 as his parents married in 1648. I have the names of his siblings but no baptism dates for them. I also cannot find the marriage for Athanasius who married my Elizabeth (unknown) and any help with that would be greatly appreciated. I have found on a website after googling a baptism for Athanasius Carrington (snr) who married Susan, on 19 aug 1665 at Fowlmere but I don't know who his parents were or siblings. Any info on him or wife Susan Farrow would be a great help. Sorry to inconvenience you folk but living in Australia makes it a little hard to access the records so readily. TIA Sharon Kirby Rockhampton, Qld, Australia
IGI has a marriage of Athanasius CARRINGTON and Elizabeth PHIPP on 7 Apr 1707 Fowlmere, Cambridge: Batch No M130771 Source 6035580 - Parish Register Transcripts indexed by T P R Layng published 1971. The Cambridgeshire Family History Society has a Burial Index 1801-17 - one entry for 1812 is for Athanasius CARRINGTON age 67 Fowlmere (so born about 1745) also 1803 Mary CARRINGTON age 45 Fowlmere (born about 1758). There are other Carrington names there in different parishes. These are all later than your original query, but the name is "odd" enough for a connection, and if you join the society somebody there may be connected or at least offer more specific help. <http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html> J On 27 Apr 2009, at 10:13, David wrote: > > Fowlmere baptisms have been extracted onto the IGI but he's not > there c1650. Fowlmere baptisms have been extracted onto the IGI but he's not there c1650. But 1650 is the start of the Commonwealth Period when many parish registers weren't maintained, so it's quite likely that if he was baptised it wasn't recorded David --- En date de : Lun 27.4.09, Sharon Kirby <Sharon@kirbyhut.com> a écrit : > De: Sharon Kirby <Sharon@kirbyhut.com> > Objet: [ENG-CAMS] Athanasius Carrington > À: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE@rootsweb.com > Date: Lundi 27 Avril 2009, 10h42 > Hi Folks, > > I have recently come to my 10th Great Grandfather > Athanasius Carrington who married and Elizabeth (unknown) > son of Athanasius Carrington and Susan Farrow. Hello Listers In the SEP qtr 1842 Martha HILL married William STEARN in Chesterton. I want to know who was the father of William. Does anyone have access to the Parish Register who could do a look up for me? Likewise Thomas STEARN was born in 1799 according to the 1851 census. I want to know if the parents of Thomas were James STEARN and Mary ILOT. Thank you Dave
As I am trying to organise my itinerary for a UK holiday could someone please advise me if the cottages at New Wimpole built for ag labourers in the mid C19 are still standing? I have tried Google earth but can not work out if they are still there. I keep getting Hardwicke Hall which looks very beautiful but not quite where GGG grandfather Wilmott lived, funny that!
