    1. Re: [ENG-CAMS] CORNWELL surname - Newmarket area?
    2. Hi Mark ! Nivard's suggestion (below) is a very good one as the word will spread around East Anglia much more quickly ! - and one county that you should definitely look at is Essex, as the well-known thriller writer Bernard CORNWELL came from there ! That is why he uses the "South Essex Regiment" in his "Sharpe" series of books and the TV series which developed from it. I also have a distant relative in my Family Tree who came from Essex and whose maiden name was CORNWELL ! Good Hunting ! Best Wishes ! 1. [ENG-CAMS] CORNWELL surname - Newmarket area?
    2. Mark Kirby
    3. Dear Listers, This is a complete longshot - but I am hoping someone out there might be able to help? I have come across an old Army regimental photo in some family 'junk' but cannot see any obvious link to my family. To try to unearth a link but also out of interest I am trying to trace some of the soldiers named on the photo. The photo was taken of the '18 Medium Regiment of the Royal Artillery' in 1953. Possibly at the barrack HQ in Larkhill, Wiltshire, UK. In it there is a J. A. CORNWELL. My research tells me that CORNWEL is most common in Cambs, possibly from the Newmarket area?. Does anyone know anything about this man or can help me trace his descendents? Many thanks Mark

    1. [ENG-CAMS] Emma DAVIS born 1850
    2. Maureen Rust
    3. Hi, On the 1861 census, in Roxham, Norfolk, There is an Emma DAVIS aged 10 born in Ely. I have found her on Free BMD born Ely district in 1850. In 1861 she is living with Elizabeth CARNELL widow aged 77 from Southery, Norfolk. This Elizabeth is my husband's GGG Grandmother, and Emma DAVIS is listed as her grandaughter. I just can't fit this Emma DAVIS in anywhere. She doesn't seem to belong to any of Elizabeth's children! I can't find her on 1851 census where I thought I might be able to find out who her parents were. I have found her on all the other censuses but she seems to remain single and has no other relation living with her. I know I could order the birth certificate, but first I wondered if anyone has any knowledge of this Emma DAVIS and know who her parents were OR if anyone has access to Ely Parish records, maybe they could check her for me. Thanks Mo

    1. [ENG-CAMS] STINTONs in Swaffham Bullbeck
    2. Ted White
    3. Hello, I am new to the list and am hoping to find some information about the STINTON family who briefly moved to Swaffham Bullbeck from Horseheath at the end of the 1800s. I wonder if anyone has access to the Parish Registers of the village please. The birth of Frederick William STINTON (my Mother's cousin) was registered in the June Quarter of 1890 and the death of his father James in the March Quarter 1893; both in the Newmarket District. Can someone find if their respective baptism and burial are shown in the Parish Registers? I would appreciate any information and would be interested in contacting anyone with a connection to this family. Thank you and best wishes, Ted White, Burlington, Ontario

    3. Hi again :o) You can also find out more by going to this website: http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/ ....Selecting Cambridgeshire and then entering the key words of Wantstead House. It appears as though it had a connection to the Ely Diocesean Girls' Friendly Society Lodge and Training Home. 3. Hi Paula, I, too, had found Ann at home and then her marriage and life with Charles Papworth, via census records. I wonder if she was baptised in another parish? Her brother Benjamin Squires JAGGARD married an Ann Papworth so you would have to wonder about a family connection there between the families. Can you check for John possibly Morley JAGGARD's baptism please? I have a baptism for him in Dullingham on 16 March 1794. Mother Mary JAGGARD so I would have to suspect he was illegitimate. I found this ref on Ancestry: England and Wales Christening Records 1530-1906. No original to view sadly. Are Dullingham, Westley Waterless, Hardwick, Comberton all close together in Cambs? I must get to the library and get a map of the county back in the 1800's BTW Samuel's daughter Louisa Jane JAGGARD is my gt gt grandmother. She married John MORRISON in Brighton Sussex in 1864 and emigrated to NZ in 1865, thus beginning the family here. 3. Otp = of this parish. Which only means they are there for at least three weeks before the marriage - ie whilst the banns are being called! It may also mean, of course, they were born and lived there all their lives, but you certainly can't assume that. I note too that two children were bapt in the same year - and one child missed out - maybe the family waited till they were a few months old - or years even - before the baptismal ceremony. Is there by any chance a death for the unbaptised child somewhere in there? Or perhaps she died very close to birth and it was a private baptism that was not noted in the register at the church. 3. John Morley Jaggard bap 16 March 1794 baseborn of Mary Jaggard - you could research for his father on the premise that Morley was his fathers surname as this was common in 'baseborns' to use the fathers surname (see also 14 Oct 1798 Betsy Ray Jaggrad natural daughter of Elizabeth Jaggard) and Morley does not appear before in any Jaggard namings in Dullingham. She married Charles PAPWORTH on 3 June 1851 in Hardwick. Searching for her baptism I tried all the variations I could think of for both Ann and JAGGARD over the period from mid 1820s to 1851 with no luck :( Paula
