Thanks Fred, I think that the tree you saw on Ancestry was mine. No dates for William & Sarah as, apart from the PR for Johns' birth there's no source for them. I'm hoping to get back a generation, to see whether my Marsh family originated in West Wratting where so many Marsh families were. Cheers, and thanks, Joy.
Hi Sheila, thanks for your information, my Harriet Prime was born in Barton in 1840 and her parents were Thomas and Jane who were both born in Barrington. John Marsh christened 1739 Ely Holy Trinity, married Mary Bell 1778 St Andrews Cambridge. Has anyone further information re the parents and/or siblings of this couple. Any help greatly appreciated. Joy, in a very pleasant New Zealand autumn.
Hi Joy Pam from over the ditch here. Have you tried the Calm (Cambridgeshire council) website? http://calm.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/ArchiveCatalogue Also have you tried a parent search of the IGI Put in the parents names (without wifes surname gets better results, because you only get patron submissions) Nothing else except British Isles, England Cambs..... OR what about British history online & national archives documents online.........I always search around these websites when I am stuck......sometimes we get a lead, or a will or land conveyances.....etc Hope you find something. Otherwise is there a LDS family history centre near you where you can get the PR's out? Hi Joy, There is a Marsh Family tree on Ancestry.com that shows John's parents to be William Marsh and Sarah. No dates are included. Of course, I don't know how accurate that is. My Marsh ancestors were mostly in West Wratting. There are no SPARROW baptisms at all in the Barrington PR's. The only SPARROW's showing in the PR's are burial of Alexander in 1617, and of Elizabeth, widow, in 1626. Best wishes, Julia
This is a bit of a long shot, but if anyone has a copy of the transcript of Barrington parish registers, please could they check for the baptism of Robert SPARROW in the 1570s or early 1580s. My Robert SPARROW married Agnes TYE in Weston Colville in 1604 and lived in West Wratting. His eldest son was called Alexander, and I note that an Alexander SPARROW of Barrington left a will in 1617 so I'm wondering if he might be his father. Many thanks for your help. Ruth
Hello I'm new to this list and would like some help with my Prime family, Thomas and Jane, they lived in Barton and I was wondering if anyone knows when someone died in Barton where they would be buried? Their daughter Harriet was my great great grandmother. Thanking you, regards Marion
Aye, I was surprised to find 7 of my own family buried there - I was only previously aware of one (who doesn't appear in the results)... pricing is a little steep though Simon wrote: > My goodness - that looks a useful resource! My goodness - that looks a useful resource! The free search gives an exact date for the event. A shame that they only currently do pay-per-view, and at 10p a credit, 15 credits to view a record, it does seem expensive. They say that subscriptions will be available in the near future. I think I probably have 40 or 50 family members buried or cremated in Cambridge in that time, and so I think I must wait for the subscriptions service to get the full details. This site now contains details of all burials at the Cambridge City Cemetery, Newmarket Road since it opened in 1903 and also all cremations at the Cambridge Crematorium since it opened in 1938. You can search the indexes for free, which gives full name and date of burial/cremation, but have to pay to see the full entry. https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch Dave
That said, within hours of it being announced, I found it on about three (English) lists I am on, then local Aussie lists shortly after, AND in two personal emails received the same day. I had to laugh - there was no way I could not know about this! And thankful I am. I have ordered over 20 certs now, to beat the price rise. And have a few more to go when I get some of the certs already ordered - and the first order has already arrived all seven of them, in the normal timeframe. I had perhaps mistakenly assumed they would be delayed by the rush of numbers being ordered! Well, this one's certainly touched a nerve. Let's all please be sensible. I merely forwarded it for interest, and as the originator wrote, "If you agree, please ... sign the e-petition. If not, sorry to have bothered you." Peace, guys. Dick ----- Original Message ----- From: Dick Coleman To: eng-cambridgeshire@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 1:52 PM Subject: [ENG-CAMS] GRO Certificates - price hike Cambridge listers may be interested to see this, posted on the Hampshire list... Dear Colleagues, As you may be aware, the costs of GRO certificates will rise from £7 to £9.25 on the 6th April. Costs haven't risen for some years but an extra £2.25 on every certificate. That's a whopping 32% rise. GRO produces 2 million certificates a year, so that's 4.5 million extra profit in one swoop. 90% of applications are online now, so their work is reduced but we pay more! They are even scrapping the "checking points", so no more refunds if its not the correct certificate. Although protesting will probably fall on deaf ears, if we stay quiet, they will think they can hike the costs up whenever they want to. At least we can express how we feel about it. If you agree, please copy and paste the link below into your browser and sign the e-petition. If not, sorry to have bothered you. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/grocertificates/.
