I have a John Lucas (my 4th g-grandfather) who I believe lived in the Cambridgeshire area or perhaps Hertsfordshire who married Ann Norman 15 Jun 1773 in Royston, Hertsfordshire. I believe that one of their children was Hannah Norman Lucas who was born 1792 and who married Jabez Barron on 22 Oct 1812 in Royston, Hertsfordshire. Royston's records seem to be split between Hertsfordshire and Cambridgeshire since it was on the dividing line. John and Ann may also have had a son, Clement Lucas who was christened in Hertsfordshire 13 Mar 1778. Or perhaps this was a nephew? Hannah and Jabez named a son Clement Lucas Barron b. 13 Oct 1813 in Cambridge. They had 8 children who all emigrated to the US with them in 1837. Many of them lived in Michigan. Does this connect with any of your Lucas family? Lin
Could anyone help me please. For a few years now my Goude link is not complete in the fact that we still cannot find out anything about a death certificate or burial record of James William Goude. He was born 1862 in Whittlesey Cambs and then he and his family moved to Northampton. He married an Ellen Old in 1883 and they had five children. Before this wife died he was living with an Eva Lucas with whom they had three children. His first wife died in 1918 and then he married Eva the same month and year and they had another child, this child Tom was my husband's father. I have had family researchers trying to find James death etc and I believe from other records that I have that he must have died in the early 1930's. I have trawled through the census records and have posted messages, even the different spelling so the name. Can anyone out there help me in this issue so that we can put this issue to rest. Thanks in advance Eunice Goude

Makes up for the lack of census information in a way. All are deliberately destroyed with very few exceptions. Glad yours was one of the majority with lots of info on it. One word of warning - you are relying, on a death cert, on info given by someone other than the subject. If you find he had children born in Victoria, or they married here, you get lots of info on those certs too, for confirmation (parents names incl maiden name of Mum on marriage cert). Birth certs give the previous issue, their names and ages; parents (maiden name)and where born I think, and ages, when and where married, occupation. Depends on how deep your pockets are, really. Interesting to track the changes over each child's birth - my gg grandfather was suddenly able to sign his name instead of a cross - I think gg grandmum had taught him by the time child two came along. Marriage and first child, he signed with his mark. Estelle: Thanks for your help with Sarah J Bishop; We have sent for the birth entry copy to the Cambridge R.O. I am not familiar with the information that one can expect from the 1871 census; is there an address and family (employer's name) associated with the entry for Sarah? We have looked at all the sources available (IGI, Free BMD) to us around Granger Bishop. It looks as if that Mary was born a Granger (no "i") which would explain the strange name; we can't relate John Bishop and Mary Granger to "our" Sarah Jane. It begins to look as if the whole family may have moved to London; there is a John Bishop family with Elizabeth and two children all born in Cottenham, but living in Middlesex on Myrtle St. - and there are three Myrtle Streets in the abbreviated Motco map index, so some clue as to where Sarah Jane was "in service" might help to localize the parents. Strangely enough both my Dixon Grandfather and his future wife were in a similar situation, he was working for his future father-in-law while she was "in service" with another family a few streets away. Thanks again, Paul & Jane Dixon Born in England, in Canada for 40 years. Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Hi Chris, I have actually contacted the Northamptonshire Record Office where I believe the inquest might be held, and they have replied that it will take a couple of weeks to process, and did't say that their records didn't go back that far, so I have my fingers crossed! I have yet to investigate the old newspapers route. Hi List My 4xgrt grandparents are Isaiah FRANCIS & Ann KENT who had a (illegitimate?) daughter named Jane FRANCIS in 1840 Denver Norfolk. Jane is my 3xgrt g/mother. I have found Isaiah on the 1841 Littleport Census living with Ann KENT, hk with dau Jane and some other children who probably belong to his previous wife? So far i am unable to find Isaiah or Ann in the 1851 census but do know that Jane was living with her married sister Elizabeth Shingles on the 1851 Norfolk census. From the looks of this too Isaiah's other dau Margaret (who was with him 1841) is also living in Norfolk. I also don't know whether Isaiah and Ann ever married as no record shows up on freebmd yet. By 1864 Jane was living in Newington, Surrey area where she married before immigrating to australia the same year. I haven't had much luck tracing the rest of her family except Elizabeth Shingles who has stayed in the Upwell area. Is there any listers with the same surname interest who would be willing to help fill in the puzzles etc. otherwise I would be pleased to hear of anyone who can see if any of the family are buried in Littleport. I would also like to find out where/when Isaiah & Ann were born. I have looked at the Cambridge baptism & burial indexes online but only shows 1 baptism for a Jane in 1816 to Isaiah & Alice. (His first wife????). I think Isaiah may of divided his time between Littleport and Denver/Upwell/Hilgay as that is where most of his kids seem to have been born. I thank you for your time. Here she is in 1871 (not much help): Sarah Jane Bishop 16 Water Beach Fen, Cambridgeshire, England Servant Islington St Mary London I'm guessing from the 1851 census that there is a chance that she is the (future) child of John and Mary Bishop of Cottenham.
