    3. WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN married ANN MEADOWS at Thorny, Cambridgeshire. Dear Listers, I am looking for connections to the family of WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN, born at Thorny, Cambridgeshire, son of WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN & ANN MEADOWS married on 22.10.1807 at Thorny, Cambridgeshire. He continued to live at Whaplode Drove, but says he was born at Thorny, Cambridgeshire, aged 44 in 1851 Census Pleased to hear from anyone with any connections to this family for mutual interest. Kindest regards. Derek in Tasmania, Australia.

    3. Hi Patrick I've got quite a few connections from south east Cambridgeshire and the adjoining counties. Your mention of Fitch in Helions Bumpstead in the 1840s interested me. I'm descended from Joseph and Susan Fitch whose son Robert was baptised in Hadstock, Essex on 10 October 1736. Do you have any record of Joseph in your data? Thanks for any help you can give me. 1. WHYMAN and KNIGHT
    2. Linda Martin
    3. I'm looking for any connection to John and Caroline WHYMAN shown in the 1871 census at 2 Station Road, March, with their two nieces Mary and Sarah Waller. Caroline's sister Sarah Waller possibly married a George KNIGHT in the N. Witchford area in 1871. Sarah and Caroline's maiden name was Adams, originating in Peterborough where Sarah married into my Waller family. She was widowed in 1865, and I could find no trace of her until 1891 when she shows up as Sarah Knight, widow, living in Middlesex with her married daughter. There is a possible marriage of a Sarah Waller to a George Knight in June 1/4 1871 on the Free BMD website, under the N. Witchford registration district. A volunteer checked the March marriages, and it did not take place there. Thank you. Linda.

    3. I am researching my mother's side of the family and her mother Florence Parr was born 1887 in Burnham Overy in Norfolk. She died in Bedford in 1952/3 I know Florence's (Florrie/ Flora) mother may have died in childbirth and her father was a William who went to Sheffield after the death of his wife and died there. Now my mum Doris Parr was born in Ampthill in Beds in 1918 and she had an elder brother Francis who may have been born in Norfolk. Florence has these two children out of wedlock so we do not know the fathers of these. William was born in 1860 and married an Alice Mary Aldridge. William's parents were we think Robert Parr and Sophia ? or Florence. Robert may have drowned at sea as he was a fisherman as this is engraved on his headstone in the church yard there in Burnham Overy (I believe) Thanks in advance for any help in this matter and hope that you understand my rambling on :) Regards Eunice Goude

    1. RE: [ENG-CAMB] Edward SMITH - 1881
    2. Kay Simpkins
    3. Thanks Estelle That has confirmed one thing, and blown another theory apart, as is usual. I was told that be Bowley name came from my Grandfathers Mother's side, but when I found her name was Hull, I spread the net wider, and looked up Smith and Bowley, and found an Elizabeth Bowley marrying a John Smith from Loughborough, who had an Edward Smith, Christened in 1850, no birth date listed, and thought I had found the Bowley link, but now there is another route to Bowley. I am learning fast with this research (which I definitely am a novice at) it is two steps forward, and at least one back. Unfortunately, due to the constant age changing of Edward in census from 1901/18921/1881/1871 and the SMITH surname, together with which Town Whaplode Drove would register in, I cannot confirm from FreeBMD which of the records are him to get his birth certificate which would lead me to his parents name for certain. I will search the Sarah Hull route further, believing her to be from the Ashby de la Zouch area. For Edward I definitely need a link to his parents. I know he was born in Whaplode Drove, between 1846-50 and that by 1871 he was working in Kirk Ella near Hull, does anyone have any census records for Whaplode Drove for 1871 to see what other SMITH's were in Whaplode Drove, or can Edward be found on an earlier census with his parents? If anyone has the time and resources to help me move on this very common name I would be very grateful. 1. Edward SMITH - 1881
    2. Kay Simpkins
    3. I am trying to trace my father's line, my grandfather was a James Bowley Smith, and was the youngest son of Edward and Sarah. I have found the family in 1901 and 1891 at Welches Dam, Cambridgeshire, though his aged moved from 55 in 1901 to 42 in 1891. He was an Agricultural worker and Publican, born in Whaplode Drove, Lincolnshire. The family I have found in 1881 which matches best is an Edward aged 33 of Catchcold, Lincoln, at Leicester Road, Whitwick, Leics, aged 33 as a coal miner. He had 2 children at this time Elizabeth (who I think is a Charlotte Elizabeth known as Lizzie) aged 6 and a Samuel aged 2, living with them was a Mahala HULL, as a visitor, but Sarah was HULL before she was married so I think this must be Sarah's sister, and this is why I believe it is that family (probably mis-guided as ever). The problem is I cannot find Catchcold in Lincolnshire, and the FHS there does not know it either. I am wondering if it is a translation error on the Family Search pages, and if there is someone who could check it for me. Edwards's parents I believe were John Smith and Elizabeth Bowley. Any help, clues, ideas, would be very welcome with all my lines seeming to wander all over the country. Kind Regards

From the recent free week on the Times I found many interesting things but the most significant was the death in 1854 of my g.g.grandfather George ANDERSON b1799 Lesmahagow. It gave an address of 27 Blandford Square, Marylebone. With the very kind help of Alan Long who found them at the same address in the 1851 census.
