I am trying to confirm previous assumptions about my ggGrandfather Harry ROBINSON. He married in Barton in 1882. On his marriage certificate his father is shown as George ROBINSON, a Tailor. On the 1881 census index the only Harry that fits is at 13 Nine Pin Court, with widowed mother Frances and elder brother Arthur. All 3 born in Cambridge. I have the birth certificate of a Harry, born 26th July 1859 at the Black Moor Head Yard, Bridge Street Cambridge, son of George ROBINSON, a Cellarman, and Frances (nee Taylor). This seems to be the Harry of the 1881 census, and I assume the one I am looking for. I found George and Frances in the 1841 and 1851 census indexes on the CFHS website as follows. 1841 ROBINSON Charles 30 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Sarah 25 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Ellen 8 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Charles 7 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Mary Ann 5 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Julia 8m Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON George 25 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B ROBINSON Frances [f] 20 Cambridge St Giles HO107/86/9 6B 1851 ROBINSON George 37 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON Frances 34 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON Frederick 9 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON Arthur 7 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON George 4 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON Frances S 2 Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B ROBINSON Elizabeth 4m Cambridge St Giles HO107/1760 887B The only marriage of a George ROBINSON and Frances TAYLOR around the right time was in Biggleswade, which seems unlikely although remotely possible. Does anyone have access to the 1841 or 1851 census books who could look up these entries for me and let me know George's occupation, where comes from, and what relation (if any) George and Frances are to the Charles and Sarah who appear on the same page in 1841. This would help me identify whether I have the right families here. Thanks Andy King
Those with ancestors in the Peterborough area, including Thorney village, may be interested in the Peterborough Sense of Place website www.senseofplacepeterborough.org which includea a whole section about Thorney (click on "Themes" and then "Life in a Fenland Community"). Mick, Transcripts of the monumental Inscriptions for both Gamlingay St. Mary's and Gamlingay Baptist burial grounds are available from the Cambridgeshire FHS Bookstall on microfiche (all one fiche). See http://www.cfhs.org.uk/bookstall.html As for the undertakers the chances are that they no longer have the records and that these, if they went anyway, would have gone to the local record office. Hi Ray, The CFHS fiche for Litlington only goes up to 1845, but the online 1851 census index shows Mary Ann TAYLOR, aged 15 months, living with her parents Joseph aged 30 and Ann aged 29. There are quite a few other TAYLOR families there too. Is there someone please, who may have the Litlington PRs and would be kind enough to check the accuracy of this for me? I would be most appreciative. I only have version 5 (with Windows 98), but presumably the procedure is much the same. Try: 1. Start FTM and open the family file you want to download (just whatever it opens at, if you only have the one). 2. Select 'File' from the top bar, then 'Copy/Export Family File'. 3. You will get a box headed 'New Family File' which allows you to select a place to save the new file - use the 'Up One Level' icon to go up to 'My Computer' then select your floppy drive. Give the file a name, and select 'Save' - this will save a copy of your family file to the floppy disc. If your family file is pretty big (which mine certainly is) you might need to do something more complicated to fit it on the floppy. Good luck, Estelle >I have my Family Tree Maker Version 8 in a old computer used just for the >tree, I want to down load everything to a Floppy disc, but am not sure how >to, the instructions say to select a file. The reference is Civil parish: Shoreditch Ecclesiastical parish: Hoxton St Mary County: London Source information: RG12/245 Registration district: Shoreditch Sub registration district: Hoxton New Town ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Folio: 72 Page: 47. There were four 37-year-old John Campbells born in Scotland in the 1891 census. The most likely one was among the crew of the SS Lammermoor, anchored at Blyth, Earsden Parish, Northumberland. He was married, the first engineer and born in Greenock, Scotland. The Lammermoor was ship No.98281, a steam ship of 1925 tons engaged in foreign trade. Its home port was South Sheilas(?) which it had left on April 1, 1891. The chief officer was Isaac Mann. I was not able to find a comparable Mary and John Campbell in the 1871 census.
