Hi John, try Googling: Roll of Honour - Cambridgeshire - Steeple Morden, you should be in luck as the inscriptions only run from J to W. Dear Heatha, Ampillas does not appear in Yonge's Dictionary but I note that Mexico has a church 'Christos de las Ampillas' (Christ of the Blisters) - (one would have to be severe and over-religious to call a child that!), and down in South America Amarillas is popular. Mo: I couldn't find a James & Mary NORMAN anywhere in March, but found the following: RG9/1044 Folio 77, Page 7, Schedule 36 - Whittlesea Road: Thomas NORMAN - Head - Md - 57 - Ag. Lab. - b. March Mary NORMAN - Wife - Md - 52 - b. Whittlesea Daniel NORMAN - Son - Unm - 15 - Ag. Lab. - b. March Folio 64, Page 4 Whittlesea Road*, March: William NORMAN - Head - Md - 22 - Labourer - b. March Mary A. NORMAN - Wife - Md - 28 - b. March *I think the address was Whittlesea Road - the next house on the schedule certainly was, & the one before was a railway gate house, uninhabited, but William & Mary's address was not stated. There was also the following living near William & Mary, boarding with a family named Hawkins: Joseph NORMAN - Boarder - Unm - 19 - Labourer Ag. - b. March Hope this helps. Viv

There's a *Phillis* Hatley on the 1871 census, born Wood Ditton, aged 29 - perhaps this was Ann Phillis??? She married in 1875. Estelle >Has anyone come across Ampillas as a Christian name? I have found Ampillas >Hatley on the 1851 census index. Is this a bad transcription? Has anyone any >idea?
Hello Elizabeth, Thanks very much. I've had to go back to work tonight so I'll look again in the morning when I'm fresh. It looks very hopeful. Again, many, many thanks. Regards, Heatha
Hi, Is there anyone out there who can look on the 1861 census for me please. James NORMAN born 1803, March and his wife,Mary NORMAN born 1809, Whittlesey. They should be at Whittlesey Road, March, Cambs. Also William Norman born 1840 March and his wife Mary Ann born 1833 March. Sorry, I have no address for them but they may be close to James and Mary as above. Thanks for anything on any Normans in March on the 1861 census Regards Maureen (Mo)
Its Spanish I believe: "Blisters"? Regards, Lance (Bremerton, Washington)
Wonderful. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks you very, very much. That fits in age-wise. Cheers, Heatha
Has anyone come across Ampillas as a Christian name? I have found Ampillas Hatley on the 1851 census index. Is this a bad transcription? Has anyone any idea? Many thanks, Heatha
Hi there Louisa I have heard nothimg from you so hope that my email got through ok. I have Joseph Christmas Parr B 1794 who married an Anne they had as far as I know a daughter then William b 1825, another daughter Maria B 1829 and another daughter. This latter daughter married someone called Reynolds and they had a daughter AnnM Reynolds b 1887 so i presume that the Ann Parr is not the same one as I think that she would have been b around 1828. Still there could be a link somewhere. Please reply to this email to see if we can establish a link Regards Eunice ----- Original Message ----- From: <LOUWISA@aol.com> To: <ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 7:24 AM Subject: [ENG-CAMB] Re:PARR family of Cambridgeshire > Hi Phil would you be able to contact me off list as i have an Ann PARR who > married John REYNOLDS around 1828. > they went on to have a number of children > I will await your email. > Hope to hear from you soon > Regards > Louisa > > > ==== ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE Mailing List ==== > . >
Dear all, I am researching the following families who moved from county to county over a long period of time. Someone may be related to them somewhere, hence spreading them over 3 lists. WOODHAM North Bedfordshire from c1600, then Cambridgeshire (Arrington/Croydon, then Gamlingay) late 1600s - early 1700s, and London by late 1700s, - married Arnold 1769. One branch went to Ely mid-late 1600s from Pertenhall/Riseley. Other places associated with them, Bushmead, Bletsoe, Knotting, Keysoe. Families associated with WOODHAM at Gamlingay: MEAD, CARELESS, NODES (Southill, Beds) EVERSDEN (from Toft/Little Eversden), These families were members of the CONGREGATIONAL CHAPEL AT BARRINGTON, Cambs, late 1600s to mid 1700s. Families associate with WOODHAM in N Beds and Hunts: Stoakes, Fryer, Cottington, Baskerfield, Brownell/Browning, Webb, Blowfield, Seward, Simes/Simms etc. BENNYNG, BENNING, BENING Tottenham (Mdx) from late 1500s, Cambridgeshire by 1650, bought estate in Thriplow 1681, married WOODHAM 1742 at Caxton, Cambs. PERKINS were heirs to the BENING family at Thriplow into the 19th century. One of their descendants may have family papers which could throw light on earlier generations. BROOK - Separate problem. N E Cambs around 1750-1850, based on West Row, Mildenhall (Suffolk) and possibly Isleham or Fordham, Cambs. Baptists! Moved to London circa 1825/30. If anyone is descended from any of this mob and would like to compare/exchange information I would be delighted to hear from them. Yours more in hope than expectation! Hi David Thanks. The man I am researching eventually became publican of "The Plough Brewery" London and a couple of other London pubs. Cheers Karen -----Original Message----- From: David DOWD [mailto:david.dowd@tesco.net] Sent: Tuesday, 29 June 2004 3:04 PM To: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-CAMB] ARTHUR EDWARD CUTCHEY Dear Karen, a 'beer retailer' (earlier = beer-monger) was a bit further down the scale from an inn keeper. Although ale- or beer-houses have existed since time immemorial (usually run by 'ale-wives'), because of the paucity of decent drinking water, the government passed an act (I beleive it was under Wellington) making it easy for anyone to set up as a 'beer retailer' so long as they had the licence fee of about £ 4. Villages with only one 'pub' could easily have four or five beer-retailers - obviously one such might ascend later to being a fully-fledged inn-keeper (incidentally, as their customers were out working all day, inn-keepers often had another daytime occupation, mostly as farmers if rural). I am looking for William and Hannah Goude married in Warwick I think. The date could be around 1740. So can anyone help me as to where to go to look up the records there and also on the above parishes etc. James William Goude is another elusive person that we cannot find as death for. He died in Northampton and there is no record of his death or burial. He died after 1920 and was born in 1862 in Whittlesey. Help Regards Eunice
