    1. Nelson help needed
    2. Dianne Bray
    3. Hi list, I have posted here before and had terrific help from people so I am hoping that someone once again can help me. I know that my great great grandfather was born Croydon cum clopton in 1828 and that his sister was born about 1832. They were John and Kitty Nelson. Their mother was Biddy Nelson (later Biddy Hagger). What I am trying to uncover is their father's name. Their mother was a Roman Catholic so I am wondering if her children were baptised as Catholics as well and if so was there a church nearby and would there still be records. Also I found Kitty in the 1841 census but do not have access to later census so I was wondering if anyone could look for her on the 1851 or 1861 - I would love to know what became of her. Thanks Dianne in Edmonton.

    3. Here is a possible death of Henry. Perhaps his death record would tell more. Name: Choat, Henry Record Type: Deaths Age at death: 74 Quarter: December Year: 1888 District: Risbridge County: Cambridgeshire Essex Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 830 (click to see others on page) Below is what may be the same man as above marrying in 1852. Could his first wife had died and he remarried? Also, perhaps for purposes of the 1841 and 1851 census he was considered to be in another county (Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk): Name: Choat, Henry Record Type: Marriages Quarter: December Year: 1852 District: Risbridge County: Cambridgeshire Essex Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 731 (click to see others on page) Below is the marriage of a Henry Choot in Suffolk in 1800 (from www.familysearch.org ): Husband HENRY CHOOT Marriage: 31 JUL 1800 Withersfield, Suffolk, England Wife REBECCA CHALLIS PURKIS And here is the baptism of Henry Choat, son of the above couple, in 1814. This is probably the same man as shown on the death record above, as the Henry Choat who died in 1888 was 74 years old at the time (born about 1814): HENRY CHOAT Male Christening: 09 OCT 1814 Withersfield, Suffolk, England Father: HENRY CHOAT Mother: REBECCA -----Original Message----- From: AndyandHeatha@aol.com [mailto:AndyandHeatha@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 3:39 AM To: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-CAMB] Henry CHOAT Thanks for the help. 3. Hello there Can anyone confirm the name of a road in Chesterfield called Tennyson....? possibly Lane. My mum was evacuated to a doctors there during WW2 with her mum, nan and a couple of brother and sister. I'm assuming it was a large house! We think it might still be a doctors, but possibly a surgery now rather than a private residence. I'd love to know the family's name that was living there in the early to mid 1940s. Thanks Donna

    3. Found the following on Ancestry.com in the Civil Registration for England (Does not require a membership to view this): Name: CHOAT, William Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1844 District: Linton County: Cambridgeshire Essex Volume: 14 Page: 86 To be certain of this I checked Linton on Genuki and got the following information. Seems to say that West Wratting is part of Linton: Linton Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Cambridgeshire, but included parts of Essex. Sub-districts : Balsham, Duxford, Linton. GRO volumes : XIV (1837-51), 3b (1852-1930). Babraham, Balsham, Bartlow, Carlton, Castle Camps, Duxford, Great Abington, Hildersham, Hinxton, Horseheath, Ickleton, Linton, Little Abington, Pampisford, Sawston, Shudy Camps, Weston Colville, West Wickham, West Wratting, Whittlesford. Registers now divided between Cambridge and Uttlesford districts. With this information, you should be able to order his birth registration for information on his parents. Can someone out there tell us once again the website and/or e-mail address to do this. My apologies if this is plowing old ground. 1. George SYMONDS - 1861 look up and road accident
    2. Louise Oliver
    3. Dear List Two queries about George 1. Where was he in 1861. In 1851 he was at home with his parents aged 9 at Church Lane Dullingham, in 1871 he was an ostler at the Angel Tap in Ely. Was he at either of these addresses in 1861? or is there an index to look him up on for 1861? His wife to be Louisa FORDHAM might still have been at the Cherry Tree Pub in Fordham Rd in Soham. 2. The Soham Chronicle has a article describing a fatal accident he was involved in (as coachman in collision with a pram), my third cousin I met recently told me of vague rumours of a spell in Ely prison for one of my relations. How do I pursue my enquiries, are there court or prison records available? Thanks and best wishes Louise

    1. FW: [LOEW] A2A Update, July 2004
    2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A2A Update, July 2004 The latest update to the A2A database at http://www.a2a.org.uk took place on Wednesday 28 July. 621 finding aids were added - bringing A2A's total to 82,270 - describing archives held in 352 record offices, libraries, museums and other repositories across England. A2A has now passed 3 milestones: it contains 7 million catalogue entries, and has been searched 4 million times since launch, with 9 million catalogue downloads as a result. The new catalogues included finding aids describing the following archives: * correspondence relating to Cornelia Connelly, 19th-century foundress of the present-day Society of the Holy Child Jesus (a teaching order of nuns), and her family, held at Birmingham Archdiocesan Archives and contributed through the Archives' own resources as a new project in Phase 3; * photographic views of Mayfield in East Sussex including the Society of the Holy Child Jesus convent there (held among Baker and Kirby family archives) at East Sussex Record Office, contributed to A2A through the Aladdin's Cave project in the South East of England; * the archive of the Vocation Sisters, an order established in the 20th century, including taped interviews with individual nuns, held at West Sussex Record Office - contributed through the regional project Local Governance and the Community; * on a different theme: the significant Wentworth Woodhouse family and estate archive held at Sheffield Archives, contributed through the Broad Acres, Big Houses, Yorkshire People project; * and the archives of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, including photograph albums and service rolls, held at Queens Lancashire Regimental Museum in Preston. Additionally, 12 catalogues of photographs of the built heritage held in the National Monuments Record by English Heritage were amended, to include links to over 5000 digital images of the photographs they describe. These images can be viewed from relevant A2A search results; they include, for example, photographs by Eric De Mare of a range of building types, especially industrial buildings such as the Chesterton windmill in Warwickshire, and inner city and new town developments with a strong emphasis on the housing estates and high rise blocks of the 1950s and 1960s. Phase 3 projects continue to progress: all but one of those seeking funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund have now received decisions, and mark-up for retroconversion is beginning. A2A is the English strand of the UK archives network; its database at http://www.a2a.org.uk already contains the electronic equivalent of over 700,000 catalogue pages describing archives held across England in national, local and specialist repositories and dating from the 700s to the present day. The A2A programme will make a further 150,000 catalogue pages available on the web by July 2005. * * * * * * Sarah J A Stark Regional Liaison Co-Ordinator, A2A The National Archives Kew Richmond Surrey TW9 4DU Tel (direct line): 020 8392 5328 Fax: 020 8487 9211 Email: sarah.stark@nationalarchives.gov.uk www: http://www.a2a.org.uk ==== LISTOWNERS-ENGWLS Mailing List ==== .
