Does anyone have access to Elm parish records - I am looking for a baptism of Susannah/Susan JOHNSON in 1791 or a couple years plus or minus. She died at adjacent Outwell in 1830, "age 39" - this is my basis for her birth year. Age at death is often not exactly correct but this is my only clue. She married at Stow Bardolph, Norfolk, in 1813 to Thomas Gathercole. Ruth Dunlap USA CFHS member #275
Dear Tim and Julie, I recently searched the online archives of The Times of London and found several stories about Soham going back to the 1800s. Just now I found a report of a fire in 1846 which destroyed 13 houses. Quite a number of indviduals and their businesses are mentioned. Would this be of interest to you? Regards, Margaret mlpaxton@rmci.net .
Many thanks but mine seem to mainlycome from Toft Kathy

Hi Kathy I have various members of the PAPWORTH family including several Richards. Mine are in Cottenham. I may be able to help with Histon as well. If your family comes from the same villages then do contact me. If not, well, good hunting ! Chris Graves, Colchester
Dear Mansfield Researchers, Firstly my apologies if I my spelling of the above medical disorder is incorrect. I have asked previously about the origins of Stephen Mansfield (ca 1766-1836) who married Elizabeth Watson (ca 1770-1809) of Swaffham Prior. However, I neglected to mention a genetic clue that may tie certain Mansfield families together. An oversight on my part that I apologise for. Our family is based in Australia, and I have heard of one other living person, who may belong to the same Mansfield family with the same genetic problem. My son has a milder form of the blood disorder Haemochromatosis which has almost certainly come down from the Stephen Mansfield family. It is also called the Copper Disease amongst other names. It means that a person has too much iron in their blood which can cause fatigue etc. and if not treated, gradually attacks certain organs over the years and may cause early death. The main symptoms do not show up until late adult-hood, but is noticeable in that it "usually" causes darkening of the skin (i.e. the "copper" look as if sun bronzed) or the opposite, a pasty grey complexion. Descriptions of my Mansfield family always include the term "swarthy", or "grey complexioned". Does this ring a bell with any researchers out there? Wynnette Ford in Australia.

I am passing on this warning from a CFHS member. It is the same or similar to a scam that has been around for some time but some may not have come across it yet. These people use any surname and offer worthless rubbish. Robyn Smith List Administrator Hello Robyn, I have received a letter offering me The Worland Family Chronicle at the special price of £34.95 and quoting the address to send a cheque to as William Pince Publishers SPG0021/NL 9 Trident Way Southall UB18 8NL phone 0208 6068624 I have found the post code for that address is actually UB2 5NP and UB2 5LF not UB18 8NL which made me think that it is likely a scam. I phoned the number and all you get is a foreign person who is just a who cannot answer any questions! I checked on Google and it gave this URL which talks about other scams from this address. http://usenet.lineages.co.uk/article4007-1-1.htm I have also shown the letter that I received to The Thames Valley Police who were very interested and have passed it to the fraud office. <snipped> Best regards, Walter Worland
Mary, Essentially it means that although your ancestor was in the Peterborough Union Workhouse, the cost of her upkeep was paid by Thorney Parish. The most likely reason for this is that she came from Thorney - which if my memory serves me correct she should do. More information may be recorded in the Workhouse minute books at which will be at Northampton Records Office and possibly the Thorney Churchwarden's and or Parish Accounts which will be at Cambridge Records Office. County boundaries do not make life easy! Hi, Could anyone help with a look up in the 1851 census for James and Mary HOWARD. I think they would have daughters Mary Ann and Susannah, plus son John with them and they came from Kings Ripton. Many thanks to anyone who can help Gary
Hi Could any one with the 1851 census please look to see if you can find either John BURTON born about 1811 in Brampton or William BURTON born about 1817 again in Brampton. They could be in Godmanchester or possibly the Riptons. Many thanks, Gary
I have been trying to get the CAMDEX website all day at http://www2.cambridgeshire.gov.uk using two different browsers and I keep getting the message that it is unavailable. Is anyone else having the same problem? Celia Perry.

Dear Robyn, Sorry didn't know ab out the spelling and hopefully now I have the address correct. Someone on the list said I needed to get on Cambridgeshire list so I tried and thank you so much for your help. I have many TUCK rellies in Harston and most of them were WILLIAM, father, son, cousins, grandsons and it gets to be difficult to find them all so hence my interest in Harston and now Whadden. It's not easy but interesting. I'll try the SAG if I can't find a bit more soon. The rail conditions make it a bit awkward these days! Thank you again for your help. Regards Helen
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6115427463 Antique photograph album and photographs. The album has a leather cover with a metal clasp. I do not know the age but many of the photographs are very old so would guess that it is Victorian or possibly Edwardian and containing older photographs. The album is not in good condition but the photographs are. There is a large selection of pictures, all relating to one family. Photographs appear to have been taken mainly in the March/Wisbech area and the surnames SMITHEE AND LEE seem to be connected (possibly a connection with the Elland area). There are also some pictures from Evansville, USA so possibly a family member emigrated. The album has 20 pages and each takes either 2 large or 4 small photographs each side so there are are a number of pictures here. The album is full of photos but some of the pieces of the page holding the pictures in have broken so there is some repair needed. Photos are in very good condition - some appear very old. A real range of pictures - young babies, lots of children and elderly family members too. I know there are SMITHEE researchers on these lists, hence this e-mail.
