Dear Cameron, I don't have the NBI index, but in 1851 there were such a lot of Noyes living in Eling that I should be very surprised if they were not buried in the large cemetery across Bartley Water from the tide mill(there was also a Noyce variation locally). The church is that of St. Mary the Virgin but usually known simply as Eling Church, I don't know if contacting them will get a response but their telephone number is 023-8086-6426. Philip, I suspect that there may be a relationship here as I see that there are other members of this group in Guilden Morden. I am sending you a tree separately for your information but, interestingly, as well as the step parent relationship between the William CLARK and Joseph RIDER that I mentioned, this family is also related directly to the RIDERs through their connection to the FROST family further back in the tree. Hi David, I suspect that it is a transcription error in the 1901 census. Hi David, Thank a lot for the census page. If you mean the image for 1901, the answer has to be yes, please. In the 1871 census Arthur Willers would be about 17 years old and probably unmarried, if you could find him in that it would hopefully give me his parents names and verify his birth place. So, yes I would appreciate that too. Many thanks. Bob in Oz.
Ancestry subscribers have access to a name index. Who do you want to find, what age approx in 1891 and do you know where born ? Thank you David, It was Hilton in Essex that I couldn't find. Perhaps it's one of those places that's changed it's name over the years.
Thank you Susie for the additional information. It all helps. Bob in Oz
Hello again Paula, This could be they. The Teversham comes from the 1901 census so I'll see where Teversham is in relation to Little Hinton. Also according to the 1901 census Florrie was born in Hilton, Essex but I'm unable to find a Hilton in Essex, but I could be on my way. Thank you very much. Bob in Oz
Thanks for trying Maureen. Bob in Oz.

Hi Jan The Ancestry index for the 1871C shows two Harry SMITHS born in Whittlesey of around, but not exactly, the right age. One was already married and living in Northamptonshire, the other was unmarried and living with his parents, father's name William. I'll send you the image off list anyway so you can see what you think. Thanks Keith and Maureen, I'm trying to find the name of the wife of Arthur WILLIS or WILLERS, he seems to have used both names. He was born about 1863 and should have a daughter aged about 4 with the name of Florrie or Florence. Arthur was born in Teversham according to the 1901 census and would be about 27 in 1891. Thanks so much, it would be excellent if he is listed. Bob in Oz.
Hi all, Is the 1891 census still only searchable by address or can it now be searched by surname? Thanks Bob in Oz

Bob et al You have to be careful with the censuses - the info was collected (especially in cities) by an enumerator who spoke to whoever was at home or left a schedule if the home was empty. Anyone at home could give the necessary info and in some cases the enumerators asked neighbours if they hadn't got the schedule back. The schedule itself was a problem, of course, since a great many people were illiterate so again neighbours were often asked to help out. Then after they'd got the schedule back the enumerator copied the details onto the census return. You can see how much scope there was for mishearing, mistranscribing or mistaking the info needed in the return. Paula
