    3. Yes, they still do charge, but didn't realise it had gone upto £5.00. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cawthorn/Fens/fenlandmuseum.html As they are a registered charity, they have to generate income in one way or another. After our PALMER Gathering in Wisbech last year, we had a surplus after expenses, so gave a donation to the Fenland Museum as they staged an exhibition of Wisbech PALMER memorabilia [and they have a lot!] - they've used the money for new archival boxes for storing Parish registers in. There is no chance of any unfilmed registers being filmed as they would lose their income from researchers :( BUT they will make A3 photocopies from any of the registers in their care. Hope this helps. So if one of your Whittlesea ancestors is missing, it may be worthwhile getting someone to check the 1871 Lancashire census eg via Ancestry. RG10/4134 & RG10/4135 have the most names. This is beginning to look more certainly like the Hannah Drury I'm trying to identify. Thank you also for the offer to search the March Parish Register. I have, in fact, got this set of microfiche, together with several other local parishes. Without this material published by the CFHS it would have been impossible to get anywhere with the Cambridgeshire research. Sorry I'm late replying, but I missed it on first looking at the list. There is a strange fault on my e-mail at present which is cutting off the last entry on each digest, i.e. if there are 7 items listed, only letters 1 to 6 are actually appearing. I wonder if anyone out there can tell me what or where "The Pits" were. I've tried Google, but it comes up with too much and I can't identify the correct entry. 3. Hi Syd, This ties in with what I had, but at the moment, I am having serious doubts as to whether I have the right family. My great grandfather was Joel Clark who was born in Guilden Morden around 1832, but I cannot prove his parents names. I thought I had them sorted, but I now have my doubts and am wondering if I am pursuing the correct family line. I know his father was James, but there are two of them about at this time. The one I originally thought was right does indeed tie in with your information, but I have the feeling I may be wrong. 3. Dear Robyn, Thank you for that info but William became a widower and somewhere along the line Mary Hatley died and a daughter called Liza was born. It is very muddled as she died and William Tuck married Marianne Cambridge in 1820 or 1821 and he had several children ending with Cambridge Tuck (a nice man) christened at Whaddon in 1842 at 1 1/2years Marianne died and he married again an Elizabeth Wood earlier Smith and she was with him until he died. He married her in 1842. Query is when did Mary Hatley die? She married him in 1813 and didn't have a child until 1820? Hi Marjorie This is what it says on the 1891 census Living The Pits, March William Taylor head 60 Ag lab March Hannah wife 69 March Isaac son 30 Ag lab March Harry grandson 12 March Not a lot more there is there! I have the parish records for March from1547 to 1872 if they are of any use to you. Best wishes Maureen ----- Original Message ----- From: M Cook To: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 7:28 AM Subject: [ENG-CAMB] Re: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-D Digest V04 #359 --=======6CD84ED4======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-32A5CE2; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Hi Maureen, Thank you so much for your very fast reply. This is certainly the family Im looking for and yes, I would be most grateful if you could send me full details of the entry for my records. So far I have Hannah as follows: Born 1820 North Elkington, near Louth 1841 Census Hannah Drury 20 at Kelstern Female Servant 1851 Hannah Drury 26 Linwood House, March Born N. Elkington 127th April, 1851 Marriage to William Taylor (then aged 20). Probable reason for reduction in Hannahs age. 1861 Hannah Taylor 38 at Town End, March born N. Elkington 1871 Hannah Taylor 46 at Wimblington Road, March born Northallerton, Lincs !! 1881 Hannah Taylor 55 do born Louth 1901 Sarah Taylor 80 do born Lincolnshire. (Probably Hannah) You will see that I quoted her age wrongly again in my e-mail - just to keep up the family tradition! She appears to have reverted to her correct age in 1891. I can trace the family back three more generations and would dearly like to set her age at a definite 80 in 1901 to be 100% certain of the connection. I hope to go to the Lincolnshire Archives Search Room next week to tackle the GRO to find her date of death. If there is anything I can check for you while Im there, please let me know. They have everything except the 1841 and 61 Census records, but I have the 1841 on disks. Once again, many thanks for your help. 3. Evening All, I have just been trying out the Cambridgeshire 1841 Census CD set (and one CD from the Devon set - this new facility of buying only one CD of a set is great) from Archive CD Books. Congratulations to Rod and his people; everything I have checked (and some of my places of interest are among the worst preserved) is legible. I have now ordered the Norfolk set - to replace a previously purchased effort! Inevitably, some pages are still difficult to read. I have found that, on occasions, setting the screen up to display the area of interest with the optimum amount of 'zoom', then printing with a setting of 'current view' on the printing options dialog box and the best quality printing your system is capable of, will give readable results. At least good enough to confirm (or otherwise) what you think you see on the screen. I must also commend the transcribers responsible for the CFHS fiche publications, some of which I also hold. With what they evidently had to work with they did a magnificent job. If only the transcribers of the 1901 Census Online had been as good! Cheers, Cliff of Coventry

    3. Hi Marjorie, I have the 1891 index for Cambridgeshire. It shows the following - William Taylor head born March age 60 Hannah wife age 69born March Isaac son age 30 born March Harry Grandson aged 12 born March I can look at the census document if you want more details. regards Maureen (Mo) ----- Original Message ----- From: M Cook To: ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, October 12, 2004 3:52 PM Subject: [ENG-CAMB] 1891 Census for March. Taylor --=======16FA4D81======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-392226A8; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Is there anyone with access to the 1891 Census for March, Cambs who would be good enough to check the following for me please? A household in or near Wimblington Road containing any or all of the following people: William Taylor aged 58 Ag Lab born in March, Cambs Hannah or Sarah (wife) aged 75 or 80 born in Lincolnshire (possibly Louth) Isaac (son) Unmarried, aged 30, born in Doddington or March, Cambs Henry or Harry, Grandson, aged 12, born in March, Cambs The information given here is an amalgamation of the 1881 and 1901 census entries. William died at some time between those two dates. The entries for Isaac and Henry are fairly consistent, but Hannah or Sarah changes both name and age. If I could pin her down it might break down a brick wall. Any help would be very much appreciated.
