Hello everyone, Does anyone have easy access to the 1851 census for Dry Drayton? I am looking for DODSON families, in particular John and Lydia Dodson and their family. Any help would be very much appreciated. Eileen Flinn Nottingham, England
Dear Lynn, Thank you so much for finding Alice. This missing puzzle piece allowed me to link my family with that of another researcher and see more of the intermarriage webs of Willingham & surrounds. Listers; I am looking for a Charlotte SUTTERBY born abt 1810 place, County and parents unknown although quite a few in Fens area of Norfolk. Charlotte married William WHITTOME 6 Feb 1826 St Mary's Whittlesey and she was buried 27 Mar 1836 Whittlesey. William WHITTOME and 2 younger children left for the USA Christmas 1836, oldest daughter Charlotte Sutterby WHITTOME was, according to family lore kidnapped at dockside by Charlotte's parents and so never sailed with family. I did not get a reply from the Norfolk list and one from the LINCSGEN list. Does anyone have any information about this SUTTERBY family? TIA Jim Whittome Victoria, BC, Canada whittome@direct.ca
Hi list, More information. If William was married in 1768, he was single (and alone) in Chesterton, and probably born about 1748. So, can anyone tell me of a William GOTOBED/GODABED/etc born around this time who sort of "disappeared" from the maternal home without a burial record??? Have you found her on the 1851 census? There's a 22 year old unmarried Catherine Nelson in Caxton Workhouse, born in Croydon, who could be a match. Hi Ruth - thanks so much for your help. I take it that the Catherine in the workhouse was 22 in 1861 which would be about 10 years out, however I know that errors do happen. On the other hand if she was 22 in 1851 that is likely the right one. I know that her mother and stepfather died in the late 1840's so she might well have ended up in the workhouse. I have the records for her brother but nothing that gives his fathers name - even his marriage and military records do not have that information so I am hoping that if I can pin down some information on Kitty that it might help. Once again thanks so much for your help, Dianne Quoting Ruth <historyscape@gmail.com>: > Have you found her on the 1851 census? Hi Ruth I wonder if that is her - because I seem to lose her altogether after 1841. Her mother died in about 1849 and her step father a year or so earlier so this is could be her. The trouble is that the age would be wrong by about 10 years. I haven't found her on the 1851 or on BMD records as of yet. Hi I am hoping that SKS could do a lookup in the 1861 census and see if they can help me find a Kitty Nelson or perhaps Kitty Hagger. Hi Martin His death entry gives a birthdate of 4 June 1904. The only match for that birthdate in FreeBMD is a William Henry Edmunds whose birth was registered in the September quarter in Swansea registration district. So I'm afraid there doesn't appear to be a West Sussex connection at first sight. Hello Listers, I am still looking for any connections to the MEADOWS or CHAMBERLAIN families in the Thorney area or even further afield as he was an Ag.Lab and could have moved around. There was a family of Chamberlain's at Whitwell, Rutland and Waddon and Meldreth, Cambridgeshire earlier and I wondered if these may connect. Pleased to hear from anyone with ideas on this subject. Kindest regards, Derek Hindle in Tasmania, Australia.
