Hi Janice You can check some of these yourself on www.historicaldirectories.org. I had a quick look at 1896 and 1916 and there is no POULTER tradesperson listed in Kirtling although there is a PETTETT/PETTIT in each (another name I know you're interested in). Best wishes Ruth On Mon, 29 Nov 2004 08:14:24 -0000, David DOWD <david.dowd@tesco.net> wrote: > Dear Janice, > Kirtling (Cambridgeshire) appears in the Cambridgeshire county commercial > directories: > Eastern Counties Directory 1901 > History, Gazetteer & Directory 1851 > Kelly's Directory 1883, 1892, 1896, 1904 & 1916 > Post Office Directory 1869 & 1879 > Robson's Directory 1839 > Some of these appearances may be trivial, however. > Regards, David > > ==== ENG-CAMBRIDGESHIRE Mailing List ==== > . > >
Dear Janice, Kirtling (Cambridgeshire) appears in the Cambridgeshire county commercial directories: Eastern Counties Directory 1901 History, Gazetteer & Directory 1851 Kelly's Directory 1883, 1892, 1896, 1904 & 1916 Post Office Directory 1869 & 1879 Robson's Directory 1839 Some of these appearances may be trivial, however. Hello Listers, I have a an ANN MEADOWS married WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN on 22.10.1807 at THORNEY, Cambridgeshire. Would anyone have any connections to this family by any chance. If so, pleased to hear from you for mutual discussion. Kindest regards, Derek Hindle in Tasmania, Australia.
I am looking for age of my 5x great grandfather Joseph Bullen his christening. I found his christening in www.familysearch.org that it was in 5 Mar 1789 at Toft. His mother was Anne Bullen but his father was unknown. I thought Joseph's father was George Bullen where I found them in Ricky Donald's website of Bullen, http://www.donaldfamily.co.uk/wc05/wc05_363.htm . I was told that George was died in 1782. But George's wife was Anne Bullen. It looks like Joseph's mother. She was died in 1817. Their children were born in Toft. I have Joseph Bullen's 1851 census that he was born in Toft and his age was 67. So his birth of year was 1784. Could anyone please look up a baptism record in a microfilm for me? I hope there might have his age in his christening in 1789. Also a name of his father?. Thank you. From Steven in Melbourne, Australia.
Thanks to all who helped me with the definition of occupations Gail in NZ

A dealer was often a middle man buying and selling; i.e. a skin and hide dealer purchased skins and hides from farmers and butchers and sold them to tanneries. A dealer butcher would be what is now called a wholesale butcher. I researching Clark(e)'s in Chatteris. Very common surname with very common forenames. I'd be glad to share information with anyone with a connection to the following family. Please contact me even if you remotely believe you have a connection to see if the connection may go back a couple of generations. I have the family back 3 generations from the listing below. Chatteris Surnames I'm researching --- Clark(e), Dann, Attwood, Schulthorpe and Tall Thomas Clark -- 1803 Sarah Clark -- 1803 Children Sarah -- 1822 Mary -- 1824 James -- 1826 Betsy -- 1828 Thomas -- 1830 William -- 1832 John -- 1836 Hattie -- 1839 Mary -- 1841 Susan -- 1842 Robert -- 1845 The family left Chatteris in the Summer of 1835. Presumabably, Thomas Sr. had two brothers, James and John that either stayed behind or followed him to New York. Thomas' father is William, born 1760 in Chatteris. Eugene Clark
Does anyone have the Over Parish fiche. I am looking for a Ginn family. From the 1851 Census I have a William Ginn aged 59, therefore born circa 1792. Thankyou.
Dear Helen, I paid someone to look for me at STAMFORD/ STANFORD Baptisms, Burials & Marriages for Ely, although I was mainly looking for prior to 1810. I've just looked through the results they sent me, and although there were few marriages, I do have the following baptisms recorded children of for Thomas & Eda or Edith. You may have them all anyway, but in case there are any that you don't have - Elizabeth 1796 James 1797 Thomas 1799 Phoebe 1801 Mary 1803 Frances (f) 1804 Edith 1807 Ruth & Jeremiah b 1808 (Jeremiah d 1808) Jeremiah 1811 If anyone else is researching STANFORD or STAMFORD in or near Ely I would be very interested. At the top of my tree (so far) is Edward STAMFORD marrying Mary WIETT (or WYATT) in 1721 at St Mary's, Ely. (Is anyone else interested in the WYATT family of Ely?) One of their sons was Edward who married the widow Elizabeth ROGERS at Holy Trinity, Ely, in 1781 (It might be his 3rd marriage). One of his sons was Wyatt STANFORD (or STAMFORD) who married Mary GOTOBED in 1804 at Holy Trinity, Ely. My other main family of interest in Ely is the MILLS family. Thomas MILLS was born c1787 in Denver, Norfolk but married Sarah SCOTT c1805 at Ely. They had children George, Robert, Henry (& Mary b & d 1815). Later in 1815 Thomas deserted the family & lived for a while at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Sarah & the children eventually moved to London. Her son Henry eventually followed his daughter to Australia. If anyone has any information on any of these families I would be most grateful. Kerry Farmer Sydney, Australia >> I am researching the Cambridgeshire surnames of CRISP (Soham), and STANFORD and DAY from Ely area. There are a couple of marriage records that I would love to find: Jeremiah Stanford married Elizabeth Day c 1835 Thomas Stanford married Eda or Edith c 1800 Both events probably occurred at Ely, possibly Holy Trinity. Any assistance would be appreciated. <<
GINN Susanna, Cambridge Baptist, single woman, admitted to the Church 1747 a baker, died 1764 Falsely accused of amoral behaviour when some drunken yob attempted to kiss her in an alleyway. See pp 28/29 of the Baptist Church Book Cambridge 1720-1832 for full report of the investigation in 1761. Read all about it.
Micahel I suggest run Outlook Express, then select Tools -> Options then select the Security tab, you will probably find that "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" is checked. Uncheck it and see what happens. In September I had the good fortune to find a folder at the Kendal Record Office, filled with Reveley correspondence from 1756 to 1850. I can only add that you must send me sufficient by return to enable me to bury her with that degree of decency and respect her merits deserve. In haste, Yours affectionately, F. Hi List (again) Thomas WILLSON and Mary Ann SMITH were married in St Ives in 1862. Yes I know that was in Huntingdon then!! But he was born in Ely and I have trawled the 1861 Huntingdon census for either with no success. If anyone trips over my Mary Ann SMITH with father John I would be most grateful. She should have been around 10 or 11 then. I have a WILLSON family with a son Thomas, but I am doubtful that I have connected with the corrct one, so I thought I would concentrate on Mary instead. Any help gratefully recieved Gail in NZ
Hi List I have a marriage certificate dated 1862 in which the fathers' occupations were "dealer" and "traveller" respectively. Would "traveller" mean a gypsy type in 1862 ? Or could it be more a commercial traveller, if such existed then. I am hoping that a "dealer" would mean a shop-keeper of some sort. Any help most welcome Gail in NZ
