Hello everyone, My next door neighbour has asked me to help find his paternal ancestors about whom he knows very little. Edward Percy Williams married Miriam Overall in 1913 (I shall send for the marriage certificate later today). I have been able to find more on Miriam's family following Census and apart from a period in Yorkshire the family seem to be a local Linton/Castle Camps family. However, Mr E P Williams is the stumbling block ! The Williams' folk seem to be everywhere. My neighbour knows nothing about this grandfather except that he died in November 1948 and is buried in Linton. Is anyone else researching this family ? Happy to hear from anyone with information or further advice. Can reciprocate with Suffolk information. Pat ... Every time I find an ancestor - I have to find two more ! Lots of Suffolk family history information at www.suffolk-surnames-list.co.uk

Thank you Paula for the information re Joseph & John Rawlinson and Rebecca Curtis (nee Rawlinson). I will follow-up your suggestions. Regards Kerrie
Thank you to everyone who responded regarding Elizabeth Sarah Curtis baptised in Westley Waterless 1 Aug 1852. I did respond individually but the return email left from an auxilliary email address and was rejected. In response to "Karen", Rebecca Curtis states that she was 36 years of age and born in Ramsden Heath, Essex on the 1851 census (Thanks Margaret) but her death certificate and the IGI records show that she was born on 6 Feb 1812 in St. Alphage, Greenwich, Kent to William Rawlinson & Rebecca Green. (IGI records show Cambridge, Essex & Kent for Rawlinson - so probably all close relatives). She did have a brother John Rawlinson (Rowlingson, Rollison, etc.) who lived in Westley Waterless and was also married to a woman named "Rebecca". I am unaware of a "lodger" being on the 1851 census. (She does appear to have told "fibs" about her age on all government records). To "Tony" & "Paula", I have found where Elizabeth Sarah Curtis md. in 1868 in Queensland, Australia and have sent for the marriage certificate but do not feel hopeful that it will reveal the "true" father's name as it would obviously have been more convenient to let her believe that she shared the same father as her older siblings - as there would not be anyone in Australia to dispute this. The only possibility is that the man who Rebecca Curtis married the day after arriving in Brisbane (David Whitby - a fellow passenger on the "Ramillies" and also from Cambridgeshire) may have known Rebecca in Westley Waterless and although 13 years younger, may have been the father of Elizabeth and agreed to have his name on the birth certificate. Thank you all for your assistance. Kerrie Sydney

Kerrie Joseph RAWLINSON b~1820 and John RAWLINSON b~1813 were both living in different homes in Westley Waterless in 1851 and both gave Ramsden Heath, Essex as place of birth so you really ought to check out that part of Essex before discounting it as their place of birth. Ramsden Heath itself didn't seem to have a church of any sort in the early 19th century and so it seems likely that people went to Ramsden Bellhouse for church matters. Ramsden Bellhouse doesn't have any entries on the IGI so you might have to get the film from your local LDS if you want to check if there were any RAWLINSON baptisms there. Of course, they could have been born there and taken anywhere for their Baptisms or even not been baptised at all. In 1851 census he was also in Shoreditch and has his place of birth as Haddenham. His birth appears to have been about 1802. By occupation he was a tailor and my wife is descended from him and his daughter Mary Ann Harding, born in London and who married Nevil Hanes Danes Sheepwash in Shoreditch. Amongst William Harding's children were daughters named Sophia and Mary Ann both born in London. I am hoping somebody on this list is also descended from the Harding family of Haddenham or that there is somebody on the list who can please identify William. I note that the Hugh Wallis website has baptisms for Haddenham for the period in which William would be expected to be baptised but the names listed are only for females so it appears not all the register has been transcribed. During the period in question one couple had seven daughters baptised at Haddenham between 1796 and 1808, that couple being William and Ann Harding/Harden. It appears likely that the mother was Mary Ann Sperry who married a William Harding at Haddenham in 1794. Amongst the daughters were Sophia and Mary Ann and those names appear above in the London family. In 1841 and 1851 census for Haddenham there is a Henry Harding, whose birth appears to have been about 1812 and his occupation was shown as a tailor, again the same as William in London. Henry appears to have been the one married at Haddenham in 1834 to Mary Ann Horster. I suspect that Henry and William were sons of the couple who married at Haddenham in 1794 and I hope somebody is able to confirm my suspicions please. Additionally I note that at Haddenham in 1822 a William Harding married Sarah Leavett and I suspect he might be my wife's William and that she later died and he remarried. When in London his wife was Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) but whom on census returns was born at Leominster in Herefordshire. It might be a co-incidence that in Herefordshire in 1832 there was a burial for a Sarah Harding for whom as yet I have no further information. Although this is not a short message I have tried to keep it simple and if anybody can answer the queries regarding William I shall be eternally grateful. Hi Mike, I visited City Cemetery last year, not realizing how big it was. A very kind Gardener/Groundsman took pity on me and contacted the office, found out the plot numbers and took me straight to the plots I wanted. Play your cards right and you might be lucky too! Also I have since found out that the council usualy keep a record of all the plot numbers. ( Good luck, Julie. Hi Tony, I know the place well... People keep driving their cars into the wall after coming off the Roundabout too fast! Let me know who you're looking for and i'll see what I can do. (No promises for a quick result but I will try). The reason I took fright when you didn't mention which cemetery was that I have to look round the big'un eventually as a rellie is possibly buried in there somewhere! Yikes! I also will have to do the same at Harwich as well..... I think the 'Churchyard' on Newmarket Road that you are referring to is probably the city Cemetery which is absolutely huge! I suspect, unless you can provide details, it will take a long time to locate the graves by walking around as it is so big. Just to be sure, is the 'Churchyard' you are referring to between the McDonalds and the Airport? If it is then I am right about it being the main cemetery (I live within a few hundred yards of it). Best of luck with your search and let me know if you can provide more info. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tony Pottrell Sent: 16 February 2007 20:31 To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-CAMS] Cambridge Request Hi all, Bit of a cheeky request, but is anyone in Cambridge willing to visit a churchyard on Newmarket Road and take some photos for me? I've found my Gt Gt Grandfather and a few of his immediate family buried at the same place, and I'd like some photos of any headstones that remain. But according to the DruidIC.org website, the churchyard is locked, I dont want to get anyone arrested! I am willing to cover any petrol costs and any reasonable time costs. I visited the area in January and drove straight past it, I didn't find out they were buried there until I got home! Gutted :( Cheers :) Tony ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message -- No virus found in this incoming message. Hello This is my first posting to the list. I am looking for information regarding the MARSHALL family that lived in Great Eversden and later moved to Bedford, Beds. My grandfather's name was Francis (Frank) Marshall, and was born in 1889. Another relation, Charles MARSHALL ran the Hoops Public House in Great Eversden for about 45 years at until his death in the 1940's. His brother,Thomas MARSHALLapparently lived in a small cottage opposite the Church, which was still there about 3 years ago, but was in a very run down state and heavily overgrown with trees and shrubs. If anyone can relate to this family I would love to hear from them. Regards Stuart Marshall
