You might also take a look at the 1901 census, although I suspect his occupation was the same as for 1900 and 1910. If he was a college porter, perhaps he worked at one of the colleges at Cambridge University. Take a look at the 1881 census in Cambridge. There is a Arthur Stevenson about the right age living with his family on Newmarket Rd. I did a copy and paste below. Is this anywhere near the Newmarket Rd address you have? You can search the birth, marriages and deaths indexes yourself at Ancestry.com and it won't cost you a cent! Unfortunately they have been transcribed yet so you have to search each quarter in turn but from FreeBMD it looks as if he didn't die before 1915 which narrows the time frame down a bit. This is the url for the deaths records and a bit of searching around will find those for births and marriages. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8966&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 Paula ----- Original Message ----- From: "jean mclaren" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 4:07 AM Subject: [ENG-CAMS] jonathan hall truman married to Mary Elizabeth Crane > Jonathan was born in 1843 (was 58 on 1901 census) I am trying to find out > when he died. John, CFHS also has quite a collection of certain parish records on CDs . Excellent if it is your area and worth the investment. Also I found it helpful to join as they have more records only available to members. If you are near a Mormon church , it is possible in some locations to go to their family history center. In California that was as close as a fifteen minute drive for me. An online friend in Yorks invested in a fiche reader when I was in touch with her two years ago. She recently responded to a query on the http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/ENG-CAM-LINTON.html , I think it was, that I had posted about John Day and has a big collection of data from SE Cambs parishes especially.that she has transcribed.... as has Marlene at http://www.rd29.net/cc/ that she is willing to share. Hope this helps! Does anyone claim a Grace SEE, bn Dec Qtr, 1904 in North Witchford district? And if anyone does claim her, do they know what happened to her? As I have been going through my SCOTT notes from talking to a SCOTT relative many moons ago that when my gt granfather, Walter disappeared in about 1904, it was with his children's nursemaid - Eliza SEE. BUT maybe, Eliza was pregnant with Grace [which just happens also to be my grandmother's name] and she didn't run away with Walter as an Eliza SEE is recorded as getting married in 1906 - again in the North Witchford district. Hoping someone can help :) Regards, Ann McClean in Llanmerewig, Mid-Wales, U.K. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Still searching for the ever-elusive Walter SCOTT Bn 6 Oct 1867 - Disappeared about 1903 - HAVE you come across him? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAWTHORN, SCOTT, & DeSILVA PALMER Family History Pages: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cawthorn/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cheers Mike :) The map was a bit of an after-thought and I think I'll revisit it later down the line but for now it does the job quite well. Thankfully everyone prior to 1900 was concentrated to within 25 miles of Chrishall. Tony Mike Snoswell wrote: > By the way, I like your site Tony. Could someone with better eyes than I give me a hand? I've located on Ancestry a record of a distant relative in the 1901 census but the page that Ancestry says he's on is so faded I can't find him. I've run the image through photoshop and I still can't see him. He's indexed as Rich Potterell, born abt 1819 (actually born in 1842). Ancestry says he's on Class: /RG13/; Piece: /215/; Folio: /64/; Page: /42... /Thanks in advance :) Tony
Just a pat on the back for such a well organized tree, Tony. Also your photographs are terrific. Have you ensured the succession of caretaker of this tree for the future? There was a recent post on the Hampshire rootsweb messages from Sandra and Charani about this. Did you use a special program to organize your history or is it your own creation? Judy Subject: [ENG-HANTS] Lost Research? If you have no success with this source, do you know the village he is from so you can search parish registers- or ask someone to do a look up for you that way?
