Hello Liane: I believe she is Ester LE PLA chr 18 Dec 1664 at Thorney, daur of Jaques LE PLA and Sara DESCOU. She would have been 22 at time of marriage. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Liane Fenimore" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, April 05, 2007 8:24 PM Subject: LePla For those of you interested in this name (particularly Carol), I found the following marriage in the Wood Walton (just southwest of Ramsey) register: Thomas Knight and Esther LePla married 23 April 1686. Liane Fenimore ++++++++++++ There is also another Ester LE PLA chr 22 Nov 1657 at Thorney daur of Jean LE PLA and Marie LISY but she would have been 29 so I am assuming she was already married. This is terrific news! Thanks so much, Liane! Happy Easter Carol
Hi Paula, I did spot Pair 1 when I started looking into the connection and you're right - I can't discount them with the information I have. Pair 2 is slightly more likely due to William being a boarder in Foulmire on the 1861 census. Also, William died in 1884 so that would also support Esther being a Widow on the 1891 census. Thanks for the advise :) Tony Paula Patterson wrote: > I think you have to be really careful here as there seem to have been 2 sets > of William & Esther ARNOLD in the same area at that time. > > Both show up in the 1871 with one pair both born in Shelford and the other > with > William born in Whittlesford and Esther born in Foulmire. > > Pair 1: Both born Shelford, Cambs with William an Ag Lab. I think you have to be really careful here as there seem to have been 2 sets of William & Esther ARNOLD in the same area at that time. Both show up in the 1871 with one pair both born in Shelford and the other with William born in Whittlesford and Esther born in Foulmire. Pair 1: Both born Shelford, Cambs with William an Ag Lab. Appeared in 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 living in Great Shelford. In 1871 both living with Thomas & Lydia FLITTON. Camdex has a marriage for a William ARNOLD married to an Esther FLITTON in 1864 which looks like this pairing. Pair 2: William born Whittlesford and a baker, and Esther/Hester born Foulmire. Were in Barley in 1871 and 1881, and Esther/Hester was in Barley in 1891 as a widow. I can't see her in 1901. In each of 1871, 1881 and 1891 she consistently gave her place of birth as Foulmire and age as 34/45/55 giving an approximate year of birth of 1836. Camdex has no entry for them but FreeBMD shows a marriage in Dec quarter 1861 in Royston Reg District (which covers Fowlmere/Foulmire and Barley) of a William ARNOLD to either an Esther Sarah COURSE or an Emma WOODS. There is also a death in 1895 in Royston Reg District of a Hester Sarah ARNOLD age 58 which seems to back the 1861 marriage as the correct one for this pair. You could always get a birth certificate for the child that you know for sure is in your direct line and see what the mother's maiden name is from that before getting a potentially wrong marraige certificate. Tony, This does seem to be the likely pairing - but the certificate would confirm it. Have you got the children of William & Esther? If you enter William's full name and just 'Esther' in the parents sections of IGI, then just enter the region, country & county, it will bring up five of them. Hi Thelma, Thanks for looking for me, I'll investigate them further and see if they lead to a potential candidate. It is clearly Esther on the 1871 census (Herts / Barley / District 6 / Page 9 on Ancestry). From the 1861 census I can see William living as a lodger in Foulmire ( Cambs / Foulmire / D6 / Page 25) so this is presumably where he met Esther. On the 1901 census, Esther stated her place of birth as Great Shelford. I believe this to be accurate, as she stated this as well in the 1861 census (Cambs / Great Shelford / D1 / Page 37). Looking through the 1851 census, there are a couple of candidates, but I believe the most likely is Esther Course (Age 15) on Cambs / Foulmire / D10a / Page 6. I've found this Esther's christening record on the IGI. I couldn't find any record of a marriage to William Arnold, which I've found in the BMD index in 1864. What do you reckon? Looks like I'll have to buy William / Esther's marriage certificate! Hello all, I've more or less finished my POTTRELL line, and I've started to fill in the blanks on the paternal maternal lines (if that makes sense!). First up, is my ARNOLD connection - to be precise: Charles ARNOLD, born circa 1812 in Thriplow who married a Mary. Mary was born c1814 in Henfield in Sussex. and one of their sons: William ARNOLD, born c1838 in Whittlesford who married an Esther. Esther was born c1837 in Foulmere/Foulmire. Both father and son appear to have been in the baking profession. Does anyone have any record of these guys? Thanks in advance, Tony

Hi Tanya: Sorry, I don't - I just took it out of the Phillimore Publishers Lincolnshire Marriage Index books which are a series of about 6 I think, for Lincolnshire - they do other counties as well. I've seen SWAIN in other parish registers though but right now can't remember where, sorry. Best wishes - Carol
Does anyone know if a home called Norman's Corner still exists in Fulbourn? I would really like to get a photo if it is. My maternal great grandfather, James Lee, the beekeeper from Uxbridge, retired to Fulbourn probably in the early 1900s and he lived there near the family bee farms until his death about 1930. He had a model beehive with glass sides which fascinated all who saw it. I wonder if there is anyone in Fulbourn who would remember him? He was a skillfull carpenter and joiner. He made lovely dolls houses for Selfridges at the time, too. I also wonder if he is buried in the churchyard there. Thanks, Judy
Does anyone know if a home called Norman's Corner still exists in Fulbourn? I would really like to get a photo if it is. Thanks again Maureen. The first child was born in 1864 so appears to be right, and Charlotte Kester was the only Charlotte I could find in the Dry Drayton census born in 1847. The reference does not give an indication of Parish, but it is likely to be Dry Drayton, so easily searchable in the r Record Office in Cambridge. Alternatively, the reference will get you the certificate very quickly. Maureen Many thanks for that. Copy of certificate has been ordered. I have a William Chapman on my tree (Maternal side). Born 1840 in Dry Drayton. I have him living with his parents Francis and Elizabeth in the 1841 census. In the 1851 and 1861 census, still in Dry Drayton, there is just Elizabeth so appears Francis died between 1841 and 1851. In the 1871 census I have him living with a Charlotte (born 1847 in Dry Drayton) plus children. By the time of the 1881 census they have moved to Barrington. The problem is I can't find any marriage for William and Charlotte. I have found a Charlotte Kester (born 1847 in Dry Drayton) in the 1851 census living with her parents James and Susan. By the 1861 census Susan is shown as a Widow and publican at the Prince of Wales, Dry Drayton. Any suggestions on where to look/search would be appreciated. I live in North Yorkshire, but will be coming down to the Cambridge area in mid May so I can do local searches then. Many thanks Keith Hughes. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
