    3. Hi Bob I use Family Tree Maker. I think it classifies it's relationships on blood relations, so by saying the 'husband of the aunt...' is showing that the blood line is between the aunt and the niece or nephew. In this case the relationship(s) are stated as: A woman cannot marry her father's sister's husband OR mother's sister's husband (i.e. an 'uncle' by marriage). A man cannot marry his father's brother's wife OR mother's brother's wife (i.e. an 'aunt' by marriage). The prohibition was removed by The Marriage Act 1931 provided that the actual 'blood' aunt or uncle, as applicable was dead. Aside from that, the terms uncle and aunt tended to be pretty loosely applied. My mother's brothers-in-law were always known to me as 'Uncle' - but then so were the unmarried partners of both my grandmothers! Cheers, Cliff of Coventry

    3. It probably is as much about convention as anything. In real terms he is an Uncle through marriage, therefore if he divorced your Wife's Sister technically he would no longer be an uncle. 1. [ENG-CAMS] CHILDREN OF JOHN RUMBELOW AND SARAH OKEY

    3. I am trying to check out more information on my husband’s family history, which as you will know is never as easy as doing your own as you do not know the background information fully, nor in this case the area as my father in law moved away around 1933. John and Sarah were my husband's great grandparents, and Alice was his Grandmother. His late father gave me a list of his mother's siblings, which I have below, but I have been unable to qualify 3 of them via census records. Can anyone advise me as to how I can confirm the validity of them? JOHN RUMBELOW was born Abt. 1848 in West Row Mildenhall, Suffolk. He married SARAH OKEY abt Dec 1870 in Vol 3b Page 1173 - Ely. Cambridgeshire. John died in an accident on the Great Eastern Railways - he was hit by a train. Burial took place after the issue of a Coroners Certificate. Some claim he was station master, but other documents claim railway labourer/plate layer. They lived at Chettisham but moved to Clayway Drove between 1881 and 1891. Children of JOHN RUMBELOW and SARAH OKEY are: EMMA JANE RUMBELOW, b. Jun 1871, Chettisham Cambs Jun-1871 Ely 3b 569; d. 1932, MARY RUMBELOW, b. Sep 1872, Chettisham, Cambs,; d. 1953. TOM RUMBELOW, b. 01 Sep 1874, Ely, ARTHUR RUMBELOW, b. Abt. Dec 1877, Ely, d. 1947. EDWARD RUMBELOW, b. Abt. Dec 1878, Ely, d. 1948; m. HENRIETTA WILDEN, 1905, ,Ely, ALICE RUMBELOW, b. 26 Feb 1881, Clayway Drove, Ely, d. 04 Sep 1981, Cottenham, Ely. HENRY (HARRY) RUMBELOW, b. Abt. 1884, Ely,; d. 14 Feb 1917, Clayway, Queen Adelaide,. ELIZA PAMELA RUMBELOW, b. Abt. 1885, Clayway Drove, Ely,; d. 1955. FREDERICK RUMBELOW, b. Jun 1887, Ely, Cambs; d. 03 May 1917, Arras, France Remembered with honour on the Arras Memorial; m. HILDA. ANNE RUMBELOW, b. Abt. Jun 1889, Clayway Drove, Ely, Cambridgeshire, England; d. Abt. 1959, Possibly Travelled/ Died On Titanic Not found on listings, but could have been married. SIDNEY RUMBELOW, b. Abt. Sep 1894, ,Ely, Cambridgeshire, England; d. Abt. 1964. These are the children identified by my late Father in Law identified these siblings of his Mum, who I cannot confirm EDITH RUMBELOW, NANCY RUMBELOW, who possibly emigrated To Canada RICHARD RUMBELOW, who is said to have moved To Doncaster to work at the Railway Works Kind Regards and thanks for any leads. 3. Hi Carolyn I'm pretty sure we have the same people in our trees. I have scant information on a possible matching couple : George CHALLIS, born 1864 Sawston, died 1934 married Louisa UKNOWN, b 1860, died 1942 George's was the eldest of 6 children to Arthur James Challis (1832-1903) and Ruth Nicholls (1832-1917). Arthur was married previously to Julia unknown. No occupation details for George, but Arthur was an Auctioneer. FTM calculates George as my 2nd cousin 4 times removed.
