Dear Listers, I have just completed it for another project but am more than happy to share my transcription of the several reports that appeared in The (London) Times in July, 1847, on the occasion of the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to Cambridge, the latter for his installation as Chancellor of the University. A very different age is conjured up by the 48 page text and dozens of names are mentioned. Any lister who wants the Word file may have it and may use it for any purpose. Ask and ye shall receive! Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire.
Hi Julie I have spent quite a lot of time in looking for your Samuel Ripingale/Ripingale. I couldn't find anything so decided to go back to base and look at the 1851 census image to verify your information. And I found this: 1851 - HO107; Piece: 1747; Folio: 384; Page: 35 Bridge Street, Peterborough St John the Baptist Susanna Bray 26 abt 1825 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Head Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire.....Straw Bonnet Maker Rachael Bray 24 abt 1827 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Sister Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire.....Straw Bonnet Maker Benjamin Bray 2 abt 1849 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Nephew Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire Samuel Rippingah 6 abt 1845 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Nephew Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire.....Scholar Mary Rippingah 30 abt 1821 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Sister Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire.....Sailor's Wife So Samuel is Susannah's nephew, but nowhere does it suggest that he is a stepson to Mary. Also I checked the 1861 census with this result: 1861 - RG9; Piece: 967; Folio: 28; Page: 18 Bridge Street, Peterborough St John the Baptist Mary Rippingale 40 abt 1821 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Head Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire.....Laundress Lam (verified on image as 'Sam') Rippingale 15 abt 1846 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Son Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire......Gra-----? cannot read this John W Rippingale 7 abt 1854 Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England Son Peterborough St John The Baptist Northamptonshire. So I am not sure if this is the correct Samuel you were wanting. I couldn't find a birth registration on freeBMD - only a Samuel Nightingale born in 1845/6 Over to you! Julie ( & Sylvia) I don't suppose that Samuel was Mary's son born before she married William RIPPINGALE was he? There's a birth for a Samuel Robert Plator BRAY in June quarter 1845 Peterborough vol 15 page 355 This would tie in with the Marriage of Mary to William in 1848. I also have a vague connection to the name SHIPP a Doris born abt 1911 who married a BRITTAIN but no other info. This complaint from a lister brought my attention to the fact that I had become unsubbed from the list and missed this thread. Could I please remind all list subscribers that this list is for discussion and enquires regarding genealogy in Cambridgeshire and off topic threads are not encouraged. Hi all, Does anyone here have access to the Coton registers? All the normal online avenues I have access to have come up dry. I'm looking for any entries for POTTRELL but in particular I'm looking for the baptism date for Frederick William POTTRELL. I've narrowed it down to March 1885 +/- 1 month. I've found this guys military attestation from 1903 and there is a medal card for him on the NA website but after that I can find no mention of him at all. I can only assume that he died during WW1, but I cannot find him on any of the commonwealth sites. Is that a common occurance? It's rather sad really, he came from a family of 5 children, if he died in WW1 that means all but 2 died during WW1, the only daughter married off and the surviving son never had children from what I can see. One of the son's remains were recently uncovered at Arras during a construction of a new motorway! Thanks in advance :) Tony

There was a Doctor called Creswell in Winchmore Hill (North London) in the last 1800; his daughter wrote a history of the family. There are also Creswell graves in East Sussex that I saw when researching my wife's family I expect none of that is relevant.... ==John ffitch

Hi, I am trying to find where a man called Cresswell DIXEY of Harwell, Oxon came from originally. There do not seem to be any DIXEYs in Oxon/Berks before him. He arrived in Harwell before 1717. Judging by his name I would guess his parents were <male> DIXEY & <female> CRESSWELL. His son and grandson were called Francis DIXEY so it is possible his father was also called Francis DIXEY. Looking at the IGI it appears that DIXEYs pre 1717 came either from Beds, Cambs or London. There are also CRESSWELLs in Cambs & London. Is anyone researching these names or know where Cresswell may have come from?
