Paul After sending me the details of William Lathwell's first marriage to Hannah I checked back with my notes. I realised that I had actually found their marriage in Chalgrave and the birth of their first two children in Eggington but I hadn't been able to connect them to any of the other known families. That's because I had only found William's second marriage to Sophia. Thanks for helping me with that connection. The VRI reference is William & Hannah's son. I also now found another of William & Hannah's children in the burial index for Slapton. Alexandra Thanks for your contact. My knowledge of the Wing branch of the family is not good. I am fairly certain that they are linked to the Eggington group. They possibly split in the 1600s. Of the names you gave me I have found all of them but like you haven't connected them up yet. I have found a Henry who was baptised in Billington (which is close to Eggington) 21/8/1679 but I haven't found any other reference to him. I have also found burials in Billington for a Faith in 1680 & a William in 1687. The earliest marriages I have found in Eggington only date back to 1794 & 1802. The earliest burial found so far in Bedfordshire is in Leighton Buzzard (this parish included Eggington at that time) in 1602. There are others from Ampthill starting 1707 and one from Maulden in 1675. You may be interested to know that in 1881 there were just 159 people with the surname Lathwell (including variations of the spelling) in the whole of the UK. Three quarters of them can be tracked back to Eggington and the rest to Wing. The only Wing family I have connected up is the one which still had people recorded in the 1881 census. I tracked them back from London and Wing itself and discovered that they were all part of the same extended family which was headed by William & Alice (nee Bateman) who married in 1782 in Soulbury. Most were living in London in 1881. I haven't discovered William's parents yet. I do have lots of other names from Wing but no links. Where they disappeared to I don't know. I don't have any of the earlier census records for Wing. That might help to link up some of the rest. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Gill
