    3. Please can anyone help? I'm looking for anyone with the surname Lathwell who was living in Slapton, Bucks in 1861 and 1871. I think any which are living there at the time will be part of a single extended family. I'm trying to link them all up. I've got some of them in 1851 and some in 1881 but haven't succeeded in connecting them up yet. Thanks Gill

    3. Hello Gill. The Lathwells at Slapton in 1861 were :- William 37 aglab b.Slapton : his wife Eliza 31 b,St.Gadsden,Herts: James 13, Edward 8, Mary Ann 5 and Louisa 3 - all b.Slapton. In 1871 :- James 48 straw dealer b.Slapton: his wife Sarah 48 b.Lednurn,Bucks; Ann 19, James 17, John 13 and Joseph aged 11 - all b.Slapton. There were 12 LATHWELLs in Slapton in 1861 - James LATHWELL 38 Shepherd Agricultural Labourer Sarah wife 37 b Ledburn Ann dau 9 Scholar Jane Selina dau 7 do John son 3 do Joseph son 1 do Sarah recorded as born Mentmore in 1851 census. James 18 in 1841, Slapton, Ag Lab, born in county. Appears to be lodging with Paul SEABROOK. 1871 - at Carpenters Arms, Slapton - James 48 Straw Dealer Sarah 48 etc. William LATHWELL 37 Agricultural Labourer Eliza wife 31 b Little Gaddesden HRT James son 13 Agricultural Labourer Edward son 8 do Mary Ann dau 5 Louisa dau 3 William & Eliza recorded as LATHELL in 1851, she recorded as born Dagnell, BKM, with James 2 & dau Caroline, 2 months. 1871 - William 50, Eliza 43, & 3 more children - Briant son 9 Caroline dau 6 Elizabeth dau 4 All born in Slapton except the wives. No LATHWELLs anywhere else in the county who were born in Slapton. In 1851, there was a family of LATHWELLs in Slapton from Bedfordshire - William age 56 b Egginton, Sophia age 65 b Houghton. All their children b Slapton. Her age could be wrong, as some of the children are too young - e.g. 9. Or maybe she was a second wife, & the children were his not hers. Ah - 1841 census, Slapton William LATHWELL 40 Ag Lab N(ot born in county) Sophira 33 N John 30 Brickmaker Y William 18 Ag Lab & Hannah 8 Y Elizabeth 3 Y Plenty on FreeBMD, (useful for references for certificates) from where one can deduce that Eliza was Walker, & Sarah was either Tompkins or Grubb. The marriage certificates would give fathers names.
