The only Horwoods I can find in the 1851 census are James and William, both in Aylesbury gaol! However in the 1790s 'Hemp' Horwood had a hemp and twine factory in Walton, Aylesbury. Was he a forebear? David Johnson
From 1869 Post Office Dirctory (Rod Neep's Archive CD) In Aylesbury there is listed under private residences: Mrs. HORWOOD Buckingham Road Mr. Thomas HORWOOD, esq, Church Street The "esquire" suggests he was more than a gardener, perhaps some one more knowledgable than I would be able to clarify what you had to be for "esquire" after your name in 1869 Also in the Court Directory section from same CD HORWOOD, H High Street Chesham HORWOOD, Miss, Hartwell, Aylesbury HORWOOD, W, Aston Clinton, Tring In the Trades Directory, there are no HORWOOD listed under Market Gardeners or Nurseymen, several listed as farmers including Thomas HORWOOD, Manor Farm, Horsendon, Princes Risborough. If you would like the other farmers let me know and I'll send them as well. Not sure if this is much help.
