Dianne and Sian Thanks for the replies. Catherine's maiden name was Davis. She was born in North Crawley on the 27/4/1828. She was the daughter of George and Esther Davis (nee Adams). The 1871 reference to a Catherine Roberts - nurse does seem to be a very likely candidate although I have no idea who the Robinson family is. As far as I know she didn't have a sister called Diane. I've just had a look at FreeBMD and can't find a marriage for a John Robinson to a Diane anywhere. There is a John Robinson who married in the Newport Pagnell district in 1869 but to an Emma Jarry. Catherine's siblings were: John Richard, George William, William Adam, and Silvester. ... and Mary Ann, Eliza & Mary Ann Susannah. The granddaughter recorded with Josiah in 1881 as Ann Roberts (14) and as Minnie (4) in 1871 was the illegitimate daughter of Josiah & Catherine's daughter Ann. In 1881 her brother George (7) is also recorded. Another sibling died soon after birth in 1872. Their mother is rather illusive!! Thanks again for your help. Gill
