    3. Hi Listers, I need some advice please on this one: JOSEPH WINDMILL, born Potsgrove 1802, married LEAH? circa 1822. LEAH, (per 1861 census), was born in Asted, Buckinghamshire but the IGI has no christening listed in any parish in the surrounding area. Nor does the IGI have a listing for a marriage. I do not have Ancestry.com membership but was able to run a free search for all the LEAH births in Buckinghamshire around 1802. LEAH was a popular name at that time and my LEAH showed up as LEAH WINDMILL. I couldn't look any further on Ancestry without signing up. FreeBMD has nothing on a christening or marriage for LEAH, but I'm wondering if, by chance, she really was another WINDMILL (were she and Joseph cousins?). LEAH and JOSEPH had 7 children (all born in Potsgrove) but the last one was born in 1836, one year before Civil Registration began. I was hoping a birth certificate would have LEAH's maiden name as required. Please, I need suggestions on how to find LEAH's maiden name. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Barbara

The IGI is not a reliable source and is very much incomplete, so the fact that it doesn't have a relevant christening or marriage doesn't mean anything. Also bear in mind that the place someone said they were born in isn't necessarily correct. It may only have been the first place they could remember living. > I do not have Ancestry.com membership but was able to run a > free search for all the LEAH births in Buckinghamshire around 1802. It's possible. Cousin marriages were permissible. > LEAH and JOSEPH had 7 children (all born in Potsgrove) but the last one > was born in 1836, one year before Civil Registration began. A birth certificate would have her maiden name but there weren't such things before 1 July 1837. > Please, I need suggestions on how to find LEAH's maiden name. Any ideas > would be much appreciated. Have you tried www.familyhistoryonline.net ? Alternative.y go to www.familysearch.org and have a look for your nearest LDS FHC, then have a look in their online catalogue to see if they have a film of your parish of interest and hire it if they have. You should be able to find the marriage then, bearing in mind that couples usually, but not always, married in the bride's parish.
