    1. [ENG-Buck] Dumb question?
    2. Sue Ashby
    3. Hello, I have a dumb question I know. But, since I don't live in Eng. and neither have any of my ancestors for at least 300 years, I hope I will be forgiven for asking.. What is the difference between the Buckinghamshire list and the Bucks list? Are these two different places? Should I subscribe to both? I am hoping that there are some present day Chitwoods/Chetwode's on the list. I know someone, in the US several years ago posted a query about them and there was no response, so I thought I would try again, in the hopes with all the interest in genealogy over the last few years, there might be someone now. Thanks, Sue

    3. Hello Sue - > I have a dumb question I know. Are these two different places? Should I subscribe to both? Both the ENG-BUCKINGHAMSHIRE & the BUCKS list cover the same area - the county of Buckinghamshire. They're not "rival" lists in any sense - both admins are good friends of each other - it just happens that, over time, RootsWeb made two lists for the area. Some subscribers are on both lists, some aren't ! List members on both lists do their best to answer queries. Both work in conjunction with the Buckinghamshire surname interest list (SIL) at http://webpages.charter.net/dcarlsen/genuki/BKM/bucksurname.html > I am hoping that there are some present day Chitwoods/Chetwode's on the > list. > I know someone, in the US several years ago posted a query about them > and there was no response, so I thought I would try again, in the hopes > with all the interest in genealogy over the last few years, there might > be someone now. When looking for others with the same surname interests, the SILs for each county are a good place to look. They get typically about 100 "hits" a day from visitors. There are a couple of entries in the Bucks SIL for you. Another place to look for researchers interested in your name is The Guild of One-Name Studies www.one-name.org . You're in luck - there's a member, Mrs Jean L Chetwood Burke, chetwood@one-name.org, researching all occurrences of the name. So hopefully I've found you some contacts, but do also talk to the list about any queries you may have about your research in the county. Wendy List Admin ENG-BUCKINGHAMSHIRE PS - For another time, you can always ask questions such as yours about list coverage direct to the list admin - all admin addresses follow the formula LISTNAME-admin@rootsweb.com - we're happy to help !

Are these two different places? Should I subscribe to both? The only "dumb question" is the one you don't ask! :)) I sub to both on the basis that the person with the answer to a query might be on the other list if I'm only subbed to one :)) -- Charani (UK)
