Hello, While there are two lists Buckinghamshire and Bucks are the same place. Bucks is the abbreviation used for the county. So for example Berkshire is also known as Berks and Wiltshire as Wilts. There are some anomalies such as Oxfordshire being known as Oxon and Hampshire as Hants. This link should be helpful. http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~jimella/counties.htm#abbrev Godfrey ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Ashby" <sueashby@earthlink.net> To: <eng-buckinghamshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 09, 2007 5:15 AM Subject: [ENG-Buck] Dumb question? > Hello, > I have a dumb question I know. Oh, thank you so much, Godfrey! This link is wonderful and so enlightening to an 'outlander'...All the abbreviations used were and are confusing to me. Just as some of the odd ball terminology used in the US may be to any of you that do American genealogy. :-) This is a great help!
