Pamela Many thanks for your efforts. It has aswered my queries. The confusion was mainly because of the date of William Hobbs' (senior) date of burial. I had it down as Feb 1678 but it has obviously been recorded in both the old (Julian -1678) and new style (Gregorian - 1679) in the registers and because it was in February it would be 1679 by our reckoning. This means that his wife could have given birth to one son who subsequently died and conceived another before her husband had died. The second one, who was baptised in 1679, was my ggggggggrandfather. P.S. I did do Latin at school but only have hazy memories of it now. I still have a Latin dictionary which is very useful at times. Thanks again Gill
