Awhile back a kind gentleman from this list sent me a 1851 census record from Townside, Haddenham. I was wondering if they are still there, or anywhere in Buckinghamshire, for 1861, or even 1871. Does anyone have access to an index, or the records? 1851 George JACKES (could also be JAKES or JAQUES) age 32, ropemaker Mary, wife, age 27, born Feltwell, Norfolk Elizabeth, dau., age 6, born Northall, BKM Mary A., dau., age 6, born Northall, BKM Edwin, son, age 7 months, born Haddenham, BKM George was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, although it wasn't on the info sent to me from the 1851 census. Thanks so much, for any help. Sincerely, Judy Carleton Alberta, Canada [email protected]
Wasn't there some confusion with George & James? In 1871, what looks very much like your Mary was living in Barking, married (according to the census) to one James JAKES, 40, born Biggleswade. She was said to be 45. They had a few children, aged up to about 16, all said to be born Barking. Edward JAQUES born Haddenham was in Thame, OXF, aged 22. And still there in 1901, though he was then saying he was born in Aylesbury. JAQUES in 1871, JAKES in 1881 & 1901, JKES (ancestry.com messing up their transcription again) in 1891. The girls had disappeared. Probably married & changed their names, maybe died. The 1861 Bucks census transcription by Bucks Genealogical Society should be published soon. That'll tell you if they were in Bucks in 1861. However, since Edward was in Thame in 1871, maybe it's worth trying Oxfordshire in 1861. The 1861 census for Oxfordshire is indexed.
