    3. It's not such a disaster - buy it online at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ & it's only £7, if you have the full reference (& it sounds as if you do). And it'll give her mothers maiden name, as well. In the meantime, here's Thomas & family in the 1851 census - E. Burnham Manor Hse. Thomas BUCKLAND 56 wid Market Gardener b Farnham Royal George son 22 Gardener b Burnham Elizabeth dau 19 Housekeeper do Sophia Caroline dau 11 Scholar do HO107/1718 671 0067 Oh! Also in Burnham (but not next door), Isabella Rosina BUCKLAND 24 b Newcastle on Tyne, Gardeners wife, & daughter Rosina Car. Mary, age 1 b Burnham. HO107/1718 675 002. I see Isabella was operating on 15 month years from 1851 to 1871. Ahh, vanity! There are others in Burnham, but there's no obvious connection. BTW, FreeBMD shows a William Buckland marrying someone called Isabella Rosanna Ait... (probably - same page) in 1848. 2Q (June), Marylebone district, vol 1 p 206. Aitken? I'd be tempted to get that certificate next, if I was you. 3. Paul Thank you so much for all your help - I'm well on my way to solving this problem and sorting out the BUCKLAND family. I now believe that Julia Ella was Isabella's daughter - hopefully her birth certificate will confirm this and Isabella's surname. I've had a look at the original index page containing the marriage of William BUCKLAND and Isabella Rosina - it looks to me like AITMEN (indexed by 1837online as Isabella Risona AITMON and by Freebmd as Isabella Rosanna AIT---). The surname AITMAN does occur in the county of Durham in 1881. This spell with the BUCKINGHAMSHIRE mailing list has been very productive. I'm really grateful for your interest and help. Pat
