My dad read a midwife diary. Those women were educated. I know one kept a diary about her excellent statistics on mortality during the late 18th cen. She kept a diary to prove she did the delivery so she could get paid. The author was Thatcher-Ulrich. The book is worth reading. You might try looking at the Aylesbury record office for diaries. My other idea was to look for a record of churching in a vicar's or curate's or church warden's diary. Let me know if you find anything.
