    3. Hi Mark, As far as I know, midwifery registraton in the UK began in 1902 with the Midwives Act. Prior to that in 1870 the Obstetric Society of London offered midwives a voluntary exam, in order to gain more credibility and the Midwives Institute was founded in 1880 in London. I know this as a current student of midwifery rather than as a historian, but I hope it helps. I'd be very interested to know of anything you find relating to midwifery if you don't mind! Good luck, Rebecca Christchurch, NZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Ware" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 29, 2004 11:53 PM Subject: Midwives > Could somebody please tell me if midwives were registered in 1851 with > anybody, and if so, where would I be likely to find any records? > > Many thanks > Mark > > ______________________________
