While searching Jackson's Oxford Journal for a HEDGES report, I came across the following which does give an insight into life in 1869 - Edition 20 February 1869 AYLESBURY Highway Robbery - On Thursday evening the 2nd inst., about 6 o'clock, Thos. Markham, a travelling tea dealer was stopped on the Buckingham Raod near Halman's Bridge, by two men, who struck him in the face, and rifled his pockets of £1 11s. 2d.
