Skirmett is in the parish of Hambleden, but it was not unknown for larger parishes to include subsidiary chapelries. The church in Frieth is one such - http://www.hambleden-valley-churches.org.uk/FRIhistory.htm The Skirmett church was another. See - http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42527 You need to look at Hambleden records, but unfortunately the IGI does not cover them (it's far from complete), & neither the Bucks FHS nor Bucks GS has transcribed christenings before 1866 (Bucks FHS has 1866-1901), though both have good coverage of marriages, & the BHFS has transcribed burials 1729-1863. If there's an LDS Family Records Centre within reach of you, you can consult the microfilms of the Parish Registers (1566-1981) & Bishops Transcripts (1575-1845). Click on "Place Search" then enter Hambleden here for details - http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitysearch&columns=*,0,0 Paul Michael Brock wrote: > Hi All > > I am picking up the trail of an ancestor who has proved a brickwall for some 30 odd years. A fellow researcher has developed a theory that my Robert MAY be connected with one born in Bisham, Berks, to Joseph Harman and Ann. > > > > I have searched for any dedicated Skirmett records, but it appears that the IGI doesn't carry any. I also tried a Google, and whilst I found that the village had a small flint church dating from the 19C it has now been converted into a home. If it was once a church, then I would have expected there to be some church records.
