Paul, Thanks for the info - I am planning to visit UK in 2008, and am looking at the possibility of visiting the area. From what I understand most records are kept at Aylesbury - I have found a link to Buckinghamshire County Council - Family History, and wonder if it is worth me planning a visit there - for a couple of days. Am I likely to find more records than would be available at the local LDS and their filmings? I understand that there may possiby not be indexes, but as I do have a time frame and an area, perhaps it would not be quite such a chore!! I am also not sure just what records the various Family History Groups of the area might have and to which I could gain access? Any advice from Paul or other members to an Australian visitor?? Best Regards Michael Brock

    3. The Bucks Archives have many records the LDS does not have, though AFAIK the LDS is likely to have copies of all the microfilmed parish registers. After all, if I remember correctly they paid for much of the filming. Website - http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bcc/content/index.jsp?contentid=-746638797 They sell photocopies of wills (index online - http://apps.buckscc.gov.uk/eforms/wills/search.aspx) & other records you can locate via A2A ( http://www.a2a.org.uk/) You can get some stuff online, but a personal visit could be worthwhile. If you're coming from abroad & can only spare a couple of days, I think it would need careful planning to make the best use of it. Bucks GS & Bucks FHS both have transcriptions of records, which they can search, for a fee, & sell various useful publications. Details on their websites - http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/ http://www.bucksgs.org.uk/ The Eureka Partnership has published some useful transcriptions of records - http://www.genfair.com/shop/pages/eur/index.html Paul Michael Brock wrote: > ... > > Paul, Thanks for the info - I am planning to visit UK in 2008, and am looking at the possibility of visiting the area.
