Hi I am wondering if there is SKS who would be willing to look for me in the records for Loughton Baptist Church, for any mention of the name WOODWARD. If this proves to be too big an undertaking, then I apologise now for asking. If it can be done, I would much appreciate it. Hoping to hear from you soon. Regards Stuart Marshall
Hi Stuart, Any BMD records that exist would be in the Church Minute Book. This may still be with the Church or may have been deposited with the CRO. This type of record is not usually in to be found in many Baptist Church Minute Books. My father was a Baptist Minister and my birth is recorded on the Cradle Roll at Thornbury, Gloucestershire, Baptist Church. The Cradle Roll at Thornbury Baptist Church is in the form of a wall mounted varnished wooden board to which names of Church members children were added with date of birth. There is no other record of my birth other than the GRO Register. In the case of Thornbury the Cradle Roll is still mounted on the wall but is not in use today. There is a better chance of finding a Baptism in the Church Minute Book, but remember that this is an adult Baptism and could occur at any age from the late teens. Happy burrowing, Raymond
