please can anyone help with my brick wall? I have Annie Cooper who married George Orchard in 1888 in Wycomb according to bmd. According to the 1891 census, (she is now married and is Annie Orchard) she was born in Great Kimble in 1865. However I cannot find an Annie or Ann Cooper born in Great Kimble on the 1871 or 1881 census or in the births............. Any help greatly appreciated! many thanks Wendy
Hi Wendy This may be the answer: There is a birth of an Ann COOPER in the SEP quarter of 1866 (Wycombe 3a 427). The Wycombe RD includes Great Kimble as well as Bradenham (her birthplace as given in 1891) and Saunderton (her birthplace in the 1901 census). The 1871 census has an entry for a 4 year-old Ann COOPER living in Ellesborough (just to the north of Saunderton/Bradenham and also in the Wycombe RD). Her birthplace is given rather indeterminately as 'Wycombe Union'. She was living with her grandfather, George COOPER. RG10/1408 f.75 p.30. In the 1881 census, there's a 17 year-old Annie COOPER living as a servant in Chiswick (Middlesex). Her place of birth is given as Elesborough [sic], Bucks and she's listed with a fellow-servant called Georgina PORTER from Little Kimble! Despite the discrepancy in age, I think this is highly likely to be the right person - she could easily have lied about her age to help get herself a job. RG11/1350 f.15 p.23. Hope this helps, Dave Annal ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wendy" <pbellw@freenet.co.uk> To: <ENG-BUCKINGHAMSHIRE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 07, 2008 10:13 PM Subject: [ENG-Buck] COOPER - Great Kimble > please can anyone help with my brick wall? > I have Annie Cooper who married George Orchard in 1888 in Wycomb according > to bmd. > According to the 1891 census, (she is now married and is Annie Orchard) > she was born in Great Kimble in 1865.
