Hi Celia Thank you for your help and your email... My ancestors were Living in Bugbrooke, Nth: William Ashby b c1775 and Mary b c1780 Thorpe (stated as Thorpe Nth in 1851 census). William died bef 1841 census. there first child John was born 1806 in Bugbrooke. Going thru the Census records I found a James Ashby born c 1802. He married Christian Burrows b c1801 in Pattishall... He was a ratcatcher. In the 1881 census he is with a brother named Henry Ashby b c1814. I have this Henry as a son of William and Mary Ashby. In various census records right thru to 1841 James has stated his birth place as Stony Stratford, Old Stratford and Bugbrooke...It is the same dood cause he is with his same wife and same occupation. A lady has come back to me that I emailed on www.ancestry.co.uk and she states that William Ashby was born in Bugbrooke and that Mary was born in Rothersthorpe, I have found no marriage around the area for William and Mary and someone has given me the BMD names for Ashby in Bugbrooke and there is no marriage there either...it just shows there children born to William and Mary Ashby. If your ASHBY line links back to Northampton in the early-mid 17th century, or had any links with NELSONs, I'd be interested to talk more about that. Why do you think James was born in Stony? Is that from census info? Might he have been from somewhere else, perhaps nearby? I am hunting for a James Ashby born abt 1799-1805 possibly in Stony Stratford His possible parents were married in 1801 in Castle Thorpe, Bucks and they ended up in Bugbrooke by 1805 where they had a son named John Ashby bp in Bugbrooke. I really hope someone can help me....thank you Regards Julie _____________________________________________ Have you considered adding "postems" to "your" events on www.freebmd.org.uk , giving your contact details? Hi again Julie, like you I've had no luck looking for the William & Mary marriage in Northants (ie. Northants Marriage Index) or in my files for Bucks parishes nearby - the nearest possibility I've seen was on IGI: 16 Oct 1801 Marsh Gibbon William ASHBY & Mary HAMP. But when I took a look in my Bugbrooke file I found something interesting: Marriage 12 Feb 1827 by banns at Northampton St Giles - John ASHBY of Bugbrooke m. Mary EALES spin otp (from NMI) Now my 5xg-grandfather Thoma NELSON married Ann EALES on 30 Jan 1765 at Northampton All Saints, Ann being the daughter of Thomas EALES victualler of Bugbrooke (though born Northampton) and Hannah (nee BILLINGHAM, prob born Bugbrooke). There was also an ASHBY connection with my NELSONs but much earlier back in 1638 when Joseph ASHBY married Agnes/Ann NELSON of Northampton at St Giles. Suffice to say I'd be interested to know if the John ASHBY-Mary EALES marriage is one of yours - is he the first child of your William n Mary perhaps? - and if so whether you've tracked the EALES line any further. Hi Celia thank you for all your help. I have ordered the microfiche for bugbrooke and hopefully I can study this ...I think that and hope that my William Ashby who married Mary who ever.. was born in bugbrooke. I was received a list of Ashby's born in Bugbrooke. A lady had transcribed them from the Parish registers or microfilm. I am hoping that she missed my William Ashby out b 1775. There is a John Ashby born the same year as mine who did marry Mary Eales but it seems this John is the son of Robert Ashby born Bugbrooke. I wish it was my John Ashby too. once again thank you for your help.
