Hi Celia, Try; http://apps.buckscc.gov.uk/eforms/wills/search.aspx You can search by surname. I found 3 Spatchers and lots of Georges. You can order the wills online. Trying to research SPATCHERs and the much more numerous GEORGEs who lived at the same times, for generations, in Stowe (& Dadford, Lamport, Boycot), there seems to be a significant lack of wills, either at Bucks RO or PCC London, for those who were comfortably placed and who didn't die at a surprisingly young age (when they might have been excused for being intestate). Could some wills of people from these places have got themselves proved somewhere else possibly? For example, Oxfordshire? I'm keenest to find wills from 17th and 18th centuries. Any ideas welcome. Cheers, Celia in Chesterfield UK
Well, it's done at last - provisionally, with a couple of question marks. Mr. Sheriffs handwriting wasn't always easy to read. :( Who'd like to check it, & tell me what I've got wrong, before it's put online? Paul
Hello list, Would SKS do a lookup for me. I'm looking for a marriage in the years 1740-1765 of a James Capel, possibly to an Ellen. Probable location Aylesbury, or environs. Issue appears to include Sarah, bap. 22 Oct 1766, Aylesbury. Thanks M M. Elliot-Jones Bala Research
Thankyou so much Nivard, I appreciate the lookup. Such a shame there's no mention of a marriage, or kiddies, or later career... never mind, this gives me a good starting point. It means he was a latish-marryer (could have been a widower I suppose), so perhaps there weren't any kiddies. Apologies to anyone on Beds and Oxon lists where I've also posted this query. I'm looking for info on this Revd gentleman who was found in Stowe, Bucks registers: 29 Jul 1746 by lic - The Revd Matthew KEATE of Turvey in the co. of Bedford & Anna Maria CARRINGTON otp (her name could be CUNNINGHAM, but I think CARRINGTON and if I'm right it's her I'm most interested in). The Clergy of Church of England database says a Matthew KEATE got a BA from All Souls, Oxford and was Deacon at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford but it also says he died while Rector of Newton Blossomville (he's listed on GENUKI page for NB, starting as Rector in 1754, which fits). Does anyone have more info about him please, or his wife? Cheers, Celia in Chesterfield, UK

Hi Norina, Thank you so much. This gives me more places to search even though there isn't a Felix. I may find a marriage for Joseph MEAD, blacksmith, and Mary which could fit and their disappearance from that place prior to 1729, the year of their first appearance in Weedon Beck. Thank you again. Thank you Godfrey for your suggestion but Joseph MEAD and his wife Mary were long deceased by 1851. Their children, g.children etc. etc. were all born in Weedon Beck, Northants. To find an occurence of the oft used name of Felix was a desperate straw-grabbing attempt to find from whence Joseph and Mary emanated. Dear Nancy, I was most interested to read your enquiry regarding these two Mead names Felix and Joseph. I do not know which search sites you visit, but I suggest that you try the IGI back to 1696 to 1800, for Felix in Fenny Stratford, Bucks. I am a member of Genes Reunited, so if you are contact me there, and you'll be able to view my tree. I have tracked my family line back through to Joseph Mead b. 1757 son of Felix and Elizabeth Hebs and have seen copies of the records from here forward. I have not yet confirmed the records of the above relationship. Joseph b 1757 was a blacksmith and moved to Milton Ernest, where he is buried, and I have seen his grave. He is my ggg-father. In due course I would love to correspond further with you, but I have just moved house, and am managing with just my laptop, without my full records, or much time. If you would like to keep in touch, then give me a periodic nudge off the message board, to my email. Best Wishes Mary
Hi Nancy I do have access to the early Wing registers, but no luck I'm afraid, now that I know the approximate timeframe. There's only one MEAD baptism in the late 1600s (1673, then nothing until 1719), and that's an Anne daughter of Thomas & Dorothie Mead "of Fenni Stratford". Another parish you can check out, if you haven't already? And no marriage for a Joseph Mead in that pre-1729 period. I haven't seen a copy of The Ploughman, so now I'm very intrigued! Would you mind letting me know the full publication details? Regards Alex (in Auckland NZ, so I know what you mean about waiting for films!) Hi Alex, Thank you for your reply and the search. I have already gone through the films for the parish registers for Olney. No sign of Joseph there unfortunately. Yes, 1796 is too late for Joseph. He had arrived in Weedon Beck, Northants by 1729 when the first child I know of was baptised. Joseph died there in 1781 but unfortunately his age wasn't given. I imagine that he was born in the latter part of the 1600's. I haven't looked at the parish registers for Wing but I do have a copy of the book "The Ploughman" by Ian Bowrey, which you probably know of., tracing the life of George Mead born 1830, the son of Joseph Mead and Susannah of Wing. I would think that this is the Joseph born 1796. I looked at your wonderful site Alex (congratulations) but couldn't see anything to help apart from the really early registers you have noted. Maybe I will be lucky and find a baptism there. There might even be Joseph's marriage to Mary ? prior to 1729. They definitely didn't marry in Weedon Beck as I have looked at the registers from commencement in the 1500's. Do you have ready access to the early registers Alex? I can order them from the LDS otherwise but it can take a month or more for films to arrive here in Australia. Thank you again for your trouble. Hi Jill, Thank you for your reply and search. It wasn't that I was looking for a particular Felix MEAD but the place of occurence of any Felix MEAD in the hope that it would give me another parish to search for the family of my Joseph MEAD, Felix being repeatedly used in his family. I would be grateful for the details of the three that you found even though not in Bucks. I have been searching Bucks as, only from family tradition, that is where he was said to have come from. This could be false. Thank you again. Hi In 1841 census there are Meads in Chesham, Great Marlow, Denham, Taplow, Iver, Burnham, Hitcham, Buckingham, Eton & Fawley, only one or two families in each place. Not a Felix in sight. Hope this is of help. You could of course look for them in the 1851 census which should tell you where they were born. Hi Nancy Felix MEAD aged 23 N (Not bn in county.) St Mary's Southampton Ref HO 1077/417/3 Pg 24 Schedule 15 Felix MEAD aged 50 N Carpenter St Peter's St Albans Ref HO107/447/9 Pg 22 Schedule 14 Felix MEAD aged 30 N Shoe m St Sepulchre Northampton Ref HO/814/14 Pg12 Schedule 30 As none of these are born in the county in which they are living there doesn't seem to be an easy route to follow to find there baptisms. Hi Nancy - 1851 census has a Felix Mead born in Olney Bucks around 1808. Back in the 1841 census he'd already moved on to Northamptonshire. I'm guessing 1796 is too late for your Joseph? I have a Joseph MEAD baptised in Wing that year but I doubt he's your guy.
