    1. Re: [ENG-Buck] BUSBY in Buckinghamshire
    2. This is very interesting, as I have Busby ancestry in US and also have ancestry in Buckinghamshire of Frederick Barber daughter was Ethel Agnes Barber (my gmother). Fredericks father was Josiah Barber and Josiah's father was Joseph all were boot machinist in Chesham. Frederick married Agnes Webb. Is there anyone out there that can find deaths for Frederick, Josiah or Joseph? Any help would be most appreciated. Marsha **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. 3. Is she either the Mary Ann FEARN who dies Sept Q 1841 Potterpury District or the Mary FEARN who dies Dec Q 1843 Potterpury District? If she is alive in 1841 where is she and does the census show her as being born in county or out of county? I assume she's dead by 1851 or you would know what that shows as her birthplace. Have you checked for ANSLEY and ENSLEY and AINSLEY and ANSLIE and ENSLIE. As she's a widow and OTP when she marries in Paulerspury in 1820 have you found her previous husband's death in the Paulerpsury (or other) PRs and are there any of their children in the PRs? 3. Hello Trish, I am doing a one-place study on Nash and can give you some information about this name: The 1891 census shows 2 COWLEY families plus two 'single' COWLEY's - there are references to Warwickshire, Willoughby in Warwickshire, and other more local places. The 1901 census shows 2 COWLEY families. Your Lily and Beatrice show up on both. I have various data I can send you off list including BDM's, MI's, photos of gravestones and 3 photos with COWLEYs in them. Alas we do not know the names of his parents or siblings but even knowing the names of the various "Stokes" is a real breakthrough and to already have a couple of possibilites is very heartening indeed. I can assure you, not all lists are as forthcoming as the Bucks group and for that I am most thankful. 3. WILSON is a common surname, not all births were registered in the 1840s, and this entry Martin has found: 1Q 1843 Vol XV Page 291 George WILSON, Northhampton (which is just north of Stoke Goldington) relates to the Northampton Registration District: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/northampton.html Stoke Goldington is in the Newport Pagnell Registration District: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/newport%20pagnell.html and some nearby villages to Stoke over in Northants would be in the Hardingstone Registration District: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/hardingstone.html so this 1843 birth may or may not be your George Wilson. The Stoke Goldington baptism register might show a baptism which would be be useful. 3. The question is, when did he marry? I see from http://genealogypro.com/articles/New-Zealand-records.html that New Zealand marriage certificates before 1880 have no information about parents, but that from 1880 onwards they have both parents names & fathers occupation. 3. According the the Bucks family History Society there are four "Stoke" parishes in Bucks. Stoke Goldington (just north of Newport Pagnell) Stoke Hammond ? Stoke Manderville (near Aylesbury) Stoke Poges (near Slough) In the GRO Index of Births Marriages and Death the only birth that I can find ( the images of these handwritten records are not easy!) of a George relating to any of these is: 1Q 1843 Vol XV Page 291 George WILSON, Northhampton (which is just north of Stoke Goldington) The family mentioned in Joe Emery's mail show up (without a George) at Stoke Goldington in the 1841 census Wilson Ann 22 - Lace Maker Yes Eakley Lanes, Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire Wilson Samuel 21 - Agricultural Labourer No Eakley Lanes, Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire Wilson Elizabeth 3 - - Yes Eakley Lanes, Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire Wilson Emma 9W - - Yes Eakley Lanes, Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire It would seem that to get back to your grandfather you are going to have to start the the top end and work back What details are given on your parent's marriage certificate >From this can you obtain your grandfather's marriage certificate from the Records Office in New Zealand I understand that there are records of immigration into New Zealand available at Wellington -perhaps sks on this site can steer you to the location of these Good hunting regards Martin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Mooar" <tonyrosmooar@paradise.net.nz> To: <eng-buckinghamshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 06, 2008 12:55 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-Buck] George Wilson of "Stoke" > Sue Coombs wrote: >> Hi Tony, >> >> Do you have any more details about him like date of birth or how old he >> was when he went to NZ? 3. Hello Tony.----- Original Message ----- In the 1851 census at Bromley,Middx. (8 Carter Street) there was :- Samuel Wilson, 28, labourer, b.Brixworth,Northants with his wife Ann, 36, b.Stoke Goldington,Bucks. (just north of Newport Pagnell & now in Milton Keynes) and seven children including a George age 8 (b.843/44?) at Stoke Goldington. In 1861 the family had moved to Finsbury,Middx. (9 Hull(?) Street). George was 18, a carman I think, and there were five other children all born after 1851 census. I can't see any likely George in 1871 and there is nothing really to indicate that this George was your gt.grandfather. I can't see Samuel & Ann's marriage either. FreeBMD starts in Sept.1837. 3. My great grandfather Gweorge Wilson came to New Zealand in the early 1870s. He worked for the railway construction company, Brogdens, but does not appear on any of the (incomplete) Brogden Company shipping lists available in New Zealand. Before he died he said on several occasions that he came from "Stoke" in Bucks. As I found, there are several Stoke whatevers in the county. If you have a spare George Wilson I would love to hear from you. Tony Mooar in bitterly cold Christchurch New Zealand.
