I have a birth certificate for my Gr grandfather which states his parents were born and married in Buckinghamshire. Would it be possible for SKS to check the 1851 Census for James GRIFFIN and his wife Leah. James would have been aged approx 26 years. Hi Carol, I'm afraid William baptised 1820 in Aston Clinton is the only likely candidate. I certainly havent found him in 1851, although I have picked him up in London in 1891 with a wife and daughter living with him. There are several otherWilliams across the border in Hertfordshire, but it would be an almost impossible task to judge whether any of these is the William you seek. Could there be any court records? eg did the mother seek some sort of maintenance for her and the child? Poor Law Union Records? Church accounts? I am afraid illegitimacy is a very difficult area for us genealogists, however you do have the advantage of actually knowing the name of the father. Have you checked the actual baptism for the child? Sometimes a willing clerk, particularly if the father was known, would add something into the baptism record. Dont just go on what is on the LDS site - that is only bare information. Sorry I cant be more helpful Regards Sandra [email protected] wrote: >Hello Sandra, > >I saw your reply to Pamela and wondered if you had any record of a William >Foskett in the Aston Clinton/Buckland area around 1852. Further to a couple of postings on the list regarding the Buckinghamshire 1861 census... The Buckinghamshire Genealogical Society (BGS) has been running a project to transcribe the 1861 census for the county, and to ultimately produce the resulting data on CD-ROM for purchase (similar to the Society's 1891 Bucks census CD-ROM). As of last weekend, the project reached the stage that the entire county had been transcribed to disk and the data checked and any necessary corrections made etc. The final task involves integrating the data with the search engine software and production of the CDs. This last phase is expected to take a few months, and is the responsibility of the software company that produces and develops the excellent search engine software. The BGS is taking pre-release orders. The cost of the CD-ROM is 21 pounds (postage 1 pound UK and 1 pound and 75 pence overseas). However for our own BGS members ordering pre-release, we are offering a special price of 18 pounds, plus postage (as above). Orders should be sent to Antony McLaughlin, Varneys, Rudds Lane, Haddenham HP17 8JP (cheques should be made payable to 'Bucks GS' - and should be in pounds sterling) Kevin Quick BGS 1861 Census Coordinator BGS website www.bucksgs.org.uk >From: "Eileen Slater" <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 2:11 PM >Subject: Re: [ENG-BUCK] 1861/71 census for LEE from Weedon >> Could anyone give me any idea of the cost of buying this 1861/71 >census. Hi Sandra, Thanks for your reply. The information regarding the christening and the marriage was taken from the LDS films of the parish registers and unfortunately there wasn't any notes regarding the identity of the father. There may be something in other records and I will persue that at some point. Your information regarding the 1841 census record was a help. I think the Selina, age 10, is the daughter of Matthew and she married a GEORGE THORNE in 1852, who would be my 3c 3xr if I have the right Thorne family. Thanks for your help, Carol, Toronto Canada In a message dated 17/07/2004 4:08:08 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > genealogists, however you do have the advantage of actually knowing the > name of the father. I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor Richard Piddington b. ca 1785 who married Mary Ann Leech in 1810 in Wooburn, Buckinghamshire, England. Their children: Ann, Matthew Michael, Richard, Hannah, Selina, Priscilla, Patience, Abram. I suspect his father may be Matthew or Michael. I would appreciate any help. I know there are a lot of Piddingtons in the Quainton area. Linda Hansen
Hello Sandra, I saw your reply to Pamela and wondered if you had any record of a William Foskett in the Aston Clinton/Buckland area around 1852. He would have had to been old enough to father a child, Mary Warren/Waring, daughter of Martha Warren, Buckland, 1853. (Of course, this could mean an age of anywhere between 10 and 80 I guess.) We were in touch over a year ago regarding this and I am still searching for him. I was way off track then. I have found the christening record of MARY and her Mother and family, but no William Fosket. MARY WARREN was christened in Sep/1853, in Buckland, dau of MARTHA WARREN, with no mention of a Father. She married JOHN STANFORD FAIRY in 1872, Wendover, and gives the name of her Father as WILLIAM FOSKET. Her Mother, a spinster, married a GEORGE LOVEGROVE later and died quite young. Pamela has a WILLIAM FOSKETT christened in 1820, that would be a possibility but he doesn't seem to be in the area in 1851. If you can shed any light on this I would appreciate hearing from you. Carol, Toronto Canada

Thank you, John, for the introduction. Thank you, too, for nurturing this list - I see your post was its 2781 st! As John has said, I'm list admin for the Oxfordshire RootsWeb list, and I'm Vice-Chairman of the Oxfordshire FHS. I live in Marlow, at the southern end of Bucks, though, and am interested in the genealogy of my adopted county. To be quite correct, although I've attended meetings and fairs/feasts organised by both Societies, and know members of both, I don't actually belong to either at the moment. I will be at the Bucks FHS fair next Saturday at Aylesbury mentioned recently by Graham Taylor-Paddick (on the OFHS stand), and will be delighted to meet ENG-BUCKINGHAMSHIRE listers there. I look forward to much helpful and friendly discussion of Bucks genealogy on the ENG-BUCKINGHAMSHIRE list. Please feel free to contact me with any (list or genealogical) problems. I'll try & help. -- Wendy List Admin [email protected]

I have LDS Film 0241211 and on p.26 I believe it says in the middle of the page - Water Lane Joseph FOSKETT : Age (?) : Ag Lab : Yes : (Matthew) FOSKETT : Age (?) : (?) : Yes : (Elinor) FOSKETT : Age (?) : (?) : Yes : Joseph FOSKETT : Age (?) : (?) : Yes John FOSKETT : Age (?) : (?) : Yes : The film is the best copy that they have so I cannot ask for another, and of course it had to be really bad on this particular page. Any help would be appreciated. Pamela
