Hi I am new to this list and I am researching the Willett/Willott side of my family tree. From the little information I have at this time the family was centred around Aston Sandford/Long Crendon/Haddenham. Is anyone else on the list researching the Willet family or this particular area. My great great grandfather Henry Willott married Sarah Tayler in Long Crendon in 1802. I only know of four of their children as there are huge gaps in the ages of the children I am presuming there were more of them. Abraham c1804 Haddenham Susanna c1806 Jonathan c1821 Jabez c1828 Henry died 1840 aged 53 in Aston Sandford, Sarah living with Abraham on 1851 census died in 1855 aged abt 79 years, Lacey Green, Princes Risborough. Jonathan with a wife Jane and two sons immigrated to Australia 1853, Jabez in 1851. Apparently Jonathan returned to England abt 1887 and died there 1892. Four of his children remained in Australia. Jabez is my g grandfather and I have details of him and his family here in Australia. Jabez is the only one so far that had his name spelt Willett not Willott. If anyone can help me with any information I would greatly appreciate. Cheryl

Hi Stuart, Have you visited Loughton Baptist Church website? www.loughtonbaptistchurch.org You can contact the church by email and ask them what records they hold. More happy burrowing, Raymond
Hi Stuart, Any BMD records that exist would be in the Church Minute Book. This may still be with the Church or may have been deposited with the CRO. This type of record is not usually in to be found in many Baptist Church Minute Books. My father was a Baptist Minister and my birth is recorded on the Cradle Roll at Thornbury, Gloucestershire, Baptist Church. The Cradle Roll at Thornbury Baptist Church is in the form of a wall mounted varnished wooden board to which names of Church members children were added with date of birth. There is no other record of my birth other than the GRO Register. In the case of Thornbury the Cradle Roll is still mounted on the wall but is not in use today. There is a better chance of finding a Baptism in the Church Minute Book, but remember that this is an adult Baptism and could occur at any age from the late teens. Happy burrowing, Raymond
Hi I am wondering if there is SKS who would be willing to look for me in the records for Loughton Baptist Church, for any mention of the name WOODWARD. If this proves to be too big an undertaking, then I apologise now for asking. If it can be done, I would much appreciate it. Hoping to hear from you soon. Regards Stuart Marshall
Hi List, For the benefit of all list members this is a copy of the reply that I sent directly to Stuart but without the attachment. Benjamin Woodward's daughter Maud married William Joseph Johnson CMG OBE. Maud died in 1955. Personal Ancestral File tells me that William is my 1st cousin once removed. I don't actually know any more about the Woodward line but my 2nd cousin who once lived in Bradwell but now lives in USA may know more about the family. She may well have worshiped at Loughton Road Baptist Church. The bad news is that she had a stroke some years ago and her memory is not as good as it used to be. I have attached a copy of William Joseph Johnson's entry in Who was Who? Have you tried looking in it for Benjamin Woodward? Happy burrowing, Raymond Basingstoke, Hampshire
Many thanks to Keith, Margaret, Maggie and Paul for helping me with the information on the Griffin family. What a wonderful response I had to my first posting to the list. Joyce Jimmieson

Hi List, I have a Sarah JOHNSON of Towcester married Thomas HARRISON of Stony Stratford in Towcester 19 May 1766. Their first child William was baptised in Towcester 15 Feb 1769. The next time I am able to find Sarah is from her Will and burial in Towcester on 15 Apr 1826. By now she is Sarah SEABROOK widow. I can not find in Towcester, a Thomas HARRISON burial, a Sarah HARRISON marrying a SEABROOK or a male SEABROOK burial and consider it likely that she may have returned with Thomas to his birthplace of Stony Stratford. Is anyone else researching there names? Happy burrowing, Raymond Basingstoke, Hampshire
Hello Anna - > Seeking parents of Richard, who was born in Shiplake 1753, did they come > from Reading? anyone able to help please? Anna Shiplake is on the northern side of the Thames, and by the time you're that far upriver you've left Buckinghamshire and are in Oxfordshire. Look at the parish map (showing border parishes and counties) on the Oxfordshire FHS site at www.ofhs.org.uk . Certainly there are a lot of BLACKMAN events in the registers of parishes neighbouring Shiplake at that time. The earliest BLACKMAN baptism in Shiplake itself is 1790, whereas yes, there are BLACKMAN events in Caversham (edge of Reading) back to the 1600s. We're off-topic for this list, but my suggestions would be either to purchase the CD of transcribed parishes in that area OXF-SO02, or to wait til the Oxfordshire baptism index is a little more complete, and then ask for a search therein. There are also a couple of people registered on the surname list OXSIL, at http://www.rootsweb.com/~oxsil/surb.htm for BLACKMAN in that area - you might like to contact them. -- Wendy
Thanks Wendy, it wasnt untill I had sent the e-mail I realized what I had done!!, I live near Shiplake etc, and have been to the Oxford gro, but the latter just stops at Richards birth. I know there are several at Caversham as well and Medmenham Bucks, thanks anyway I will look up your suggestion. Anna

I am new to research in Buckinghamshire and would like to know if the 1851 census is indexed. I have a birth certificate for my Gr grandfather which states his parents were born and married in Buckinghamshire. Would it be possible for SKS to check the 1851 Census for James GRIFFIN and his wife Leah. James would have been aged approx 26 years. I know this is a huge request if there is no index as I have no idea where they were living. Any assistance you are able to offer would be appreciated. Joyce Jimmieson Queensland Australia
