Hello Kevin, Thank you very much indeed for sending me this data, this is such a help. I had another email off-List from a lady who also gave me the same name, and is tied in to the same line, so I am sury Phebe is mine. It is such a wonderful thing to 'meet' another grandparent :-) I am very grateful to you. Please do thank your father for his work from me as well. Hi May My father has been transcribing the 19th/20th century Bledlow baptism registers and I noticed the following: Baptised: 8th March 1829 Birth Date: 13th Febuary 1829 Mary NEWEL daughter of Henry & Phebe, Occupation: Labourer, Abode: Bledlow Ridge, Performed by: William Stephen, Vicar Could this be your Mary - if so, you now have a mothers name :-) Kevin Quick On Friday, October 1, 2004, at 12:39 pm, mayndave wrote: > Hi Sheila, > > I notice that you wrote for NEWELL recently. I'd be very grateful if anyone with access to either the images of the 1851 census for Aylesbury, or the Bucks GS transcription, would look up Mary Ann SHAW & tell me exactly what's said about her. She was living in the household of George SHAW & his wife Susanna, in Cambridge Street. I'd like to know exactly what's said about her relationship to George & Susanna, how old she was, & where she was born. I have her life plotted out from 1858 onwards, but before that I'm confused by Mary Anns. There are several, but they're all too old, or too young, or their fathers names don't match the one she gave when she married, or they claim to have been born in the wrong place. Banging head against wall is starting to seem appealing . . . Paul
I just had to share this one - Baptised at St. Mary, Aylesbury, 9th April 1842 - Ramon Alberto Ewen, son of Ewen Clark & Theresa McINTOSH of City of Mexico, Merchant. Isn't life wonderful?
Hi Sheila, I notice that you wrote for NEWELL recently. Mine don't at the moment look to tie in with yours but I thought I'd let you know of them anyway. I have a 3G Grandmother Mary NEWELL who was born in Bledlow Ridge, 1828, daughter to Henry and unknown mother. Henry's father was another Henry and his mother was Mary nee COPCUT. This couple were married in Bledlow on 12 Oct 1789. All the best with your research, May LANCHBURY Perth W.Australia
Hi Eileen, Sorry to 'but-in' - I live in Ivinghoe. I have in my possession a grave plan of the church-yard which shows the following members of the PRATT family - Arthur John PRATT died 1982 aged 90 Florence Ann PRATT died 1948 aged 81 Herbert Jesse Brooks PRATT died 1949 aged 81 Headstone inscriptions read: In fondest memories of Arthur John PRATT born 6/3/1892 died 15/6/1982 In loving memory of Herbert Jesse Brooks PRATT born 25/12/1868 died 20/11/1949. Also of Florence Ann his wife born 16/5/1867 died 15/12/1948 Gone but not forgotten" If these are yours and you would like a photo of the headstones let me know and I'll send them over. And yes, I think the father could very well be mentioned in the marriage record even if he was dead. I have a case from my own family, also Jones, a coal seller in Gloucestershire, who died the year before the marriage of his daughter who I'm descended from. Indeed, if it wasn't for his name being given by her, I'd not know who her father was. He's since been found in the 1841 census, with her, her mother & the sister who witnessed her marriage. I have the 1841 Bucks census. It may not be in the next few days, but now I know who to look for I'll skim through Buckingham & see if I can spot them. No promises - it's enumerators book images, not indexed, & some pages aren't very legible, but I'll have a quick look. Paul

Paul I got an email earlier with an entry for a Sarah Jones aged 26 living with her mother Mary (gentlewoman, aged 49) and sister Mildred aged 21. I do believe this is the family because in Sarah's marraige certificate, one of the witnesses was Mildred Jones. Sarah married in 1852 and in the certificate they list the father's name: George Jones. Would the father be listed even if he had died?
