Hi Folks Talk about longevity :o)..... William GIBBS married Silence GOODGER on the 20th Feb 1814 not 1914 Roger
Hi Folks Is anyone researching the surname of GIBBS in Winslow? If anyone has information on William GIBBS b.circ 1753 I would be particularly interested in when he died or was buried at Winslow. His first wife was Elizabeth Mansfield and he married his second wife, Silence GOODGER, on 20th Feb 1914. Silence was recorded in the 1841 as Silence "GOODGER" age 75 years ....not GIBBS. Her death certificate in 1845 has her correctly entered as Silence GIBBS aged 77 years. Thanks Roger
Further to my earlier message: I now have the marriage certificate of William Tilbury (born 1856) to Sarah Ann Breakspear. I know now that his father's first name was Thomas. Thomas was given as a labourer on that certificate . So this may help anyone who is able to kook up the family for me in the 1861 or 1871 census based around Marlow, if they have the time. Dear Paul, Thank you so much for the info. I really appreciate your quick reply! Best wishes, Liz Coles in Munich
Hello everyone, I have just joined the list, as I am researchin the above name. Roger TOLLADAY was a boat builder in Eton. In Pigot's 1844 and Slater's 1852 directories he was in Brocas? St, as were other boat builders. In 1852 He were entered as Tolladay and Kempster. Has anyone come across this name? If anyone has access to the 1851 census, I would appreciate a lookup. Many thanks Liz Coles
Hi everyone! I am new to this list, but have had a tremendous amount of help from other lists. A lot of my research has been in Bedfordshire, but I have discovered many connections to Buckinghamshire. I am particularly looking for any info on two brothers, William and Charles King, who were born in Leighton Buzzard Beds, but both moved to Winslow, Bucks. I discovered from their fathers will, that William was an innkeeper there in 1797 and Charles was a watchmaker. I do not have any further information. If anyone has any info on these two men, I would love to learn more! I believe they were born c1761 and 1770. Thanks for any help and I am looking forward to learning more about Buckinghamshire. Best wishes Mary Lou on the canadian west coast

Hi Paul, I'm a bit late with this one and it's not terribly exotic but I have the following name from the 1871 census transcription of Ancestry: - phellasulphia (Unknown) Cevtes The second name should be Curtis but as far as the first one goes I haven't a clue! Wondered about Phyllis Sophia but I've just now checked again and to me it looks like it might be - Phelladulfahia ..... perhaps Philadelphia? If anyone has a clue to what this name should be (haven't found it on FreeBMD yet) I'd be happy to hear it. I rather do like Mahershalalhashbaz though! Thanks, Margaret .... Hi Paul I get the Family Tree magazine and there has been an ongoing discussion in it recently regards the name Mahershallalhashbaz. Apparently it is the longest name in the bible and broken down into its four components of Maher-shallal-ash-baz means 'haste, spoil, speed and prey. They also highlighted other biblical names such as Mehetabel and Onesiphorous (meaning bringing again). It appears that ours is not the only generation with a penchant for unusual names for our children, except ours are probably easier to pronounce! Regards Sue King
Mr Mahershallalhashbaz Hussey may have had descendants in Oklahoma. One of my dad's best friends just died a few years ago. His name really was Royal Hussey. I don't intend to make a habit of aimless postings like this, but some things can't be resisted. While checking out a suspiciously old (for the 1760s) bride, I found she was, as I suspected, a widow, sister-in-law of the Ann HUSSEY who the IGI says married my ancestor Henry BROWN. So I started looking for half-siblings of hers & Henrys children, & found - Mahershalalhashbaz HUSSEY, born 2-Mar-1761 in Aylesbury, son of Thomas (a miller) & Ann ( nee HARDING, later BROWN). Has anyone found a more exotic name? Paul
Hi Everyone, I wonder if there is some kind person on the list who has access either to the baptisms of Hoggeston post 1813 and/or the census of 1841 and 1851. I am specifically looking for Matilda Hopkins, dau of Henry Hopkins who was born circa 1837, but any Hopkins from that parish would be gratefully received. Thank you Sandra
Helping a friend with the above. He married either Mary Ann Jordan or Mary Ann Hannah. There is a Islington marriage 1878 for a Edwin Lee and Mary Ann Jordan but this census shows John Hannah brother in Law. Any help would be greatly appreciated?
