    1. Re: Help reading a will please? Advice as to who to ask for help reading it.
    2. Hi Tina, If you can read a couple of words you are started. Just keep trying and after a while you will surprise yourself. When you come across an unusually formed letter make a little pencil sketch of it to remind yourself. There will be no punctuation. The word after the someone's name will often be their occupation, eg James Bloggs Grocer William Smith Esquire There will be a lots of repeated words and phrases that you will recognise after a while, roughly something like these: This is the last will and testament of me ..... of ...... in the County of ..... I desire my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be fully paid out of my personal estate my executors and trustees my executors and executrix my heirs and their executors administrators and assigns my dear wife my beloved wife my good friend my respected friend my children I give devise and bequeath assign absolutely dwelling house freehold leasehold or copyhold messuages or tenements buildings courts yards gardens lands hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging and appertaining situate and being in the High Street in the town of ... rents issues and profits accruing therefrom subject to the payment of the rent and to the observance and performance of the covenants and agreements reserved or contained in the lease Upon trust to permit and suffer my said dear wife ... to use and enjoy my plate linen china household effects and household stores during the term of her natural life tenants in common and not as joint tenants heretofor herewith herein before mentioned therein therefrom hereinafter endowed wheretofor whereby whatsoever the aforesaid the said nevertheless all and singular each and severally share and share alike You will suddenly find that you have learned a new written language and it is very satisfying. Having transcribed it you then have to work out what it means. Best of luck. Peter. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tina Connell" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2004 1:37 PM Subject: Help reading a will please? 3. Gertie, Depends on whether or not you are referring to the British Royal family. This is called Order of Precedence and a full list usually appears in Burke's Peerage. However, there are a number of web pages about this.. eg http://www.heraldica.org/topics/britain/order_precedence.htm In the case of our Queen, on first being introduced, you must call her Your Majesty and thereafter Ma'am (rhyming with Jam). I believe that if we had a king it would be your Majesty followed by Sir. In the case of Royal Princes and Princesses, they are first addressed as Your Royal Highness and then either Sir or Ma'am. I have met the Queen, Prince Charles and Princess Anne on a number of occasions and was so briefed. One of the bones of contention following the divorce of Prince Charles and Diana was that her HRH was withdrawn, so that there was no longer any requirement to adress her as Your Royal Highness. Precedence, as far as Royalty is concerned, is that Royal Dukes come immediately after the King, Queen, Prince and Princesses, These would be close relatives of the Royal Family. eg Nephews, Uncles, cousins. Then came the other Dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, barons, knights banneret, knights bachelor.. The precedence within each of these groups was determined by the date of creation of the t itle. Somewhere in there came the Lords Spritual - the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, but I'm not sure quite where. Hope this helps Sandra L Stitt wrote: >Please could anyone advise me re royalty line. > >King _ Queen >Prince- Princess >What is the line after the above in order = also how do you address them - >Sir? 2. Pamela
    3. Hi, I recently found out that 3 of my Grandfather's sisters all died in the Aylesbury District, probably Aylesbury, in the 1970's and 1980's. I have yet to obtain the Death Certificates. The addresses are from the Electoral Rolls. If anyone has any personal knowledge of these ladies I would be grateful if you would contact me off-list. I would love to be able to get to know them, as at present all I have is the little knowledge gleaned from my Mother when she visited Aylesbury in the 1920's, when she was a child. I had no idea that they had lived until long, I mean really long, after I was born. Gertrude [CHAPMAN] WRIGHT d. From the IGI I have the following: - Sarah WARREN, christened 26 Feb 1809, Stoke Goldington, BKM Parents: Francis Warren and Mary Batch No: C073691 Her maiden name was listed on my gr grandfather George ALLEN's birth certificate. Right now I can't see any connection between your WARREN family and mine but perhaps further back we'll find one. Kind regards, Margaret Auger Ontario, Canada

    3. Dear Listers! I have been trying to discover the marriage of ELIZA HIRONS for several years. She was born in about 1809 in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. Her father was RICHARD HIRON. She married WILLIAM BECKETT ( born 1795 in Buckingham, Buckinghamshire) between 1831 and 1833/34. The lived in Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire and had fifteen children. WILLIAM BECKETT was a chimney sweeper. I have had the records of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire searched for the above marriage without success. In desperation, I now turn to Buckinghamshire! Does anyone know the above family? Any relevant information would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Mike Walker
